Of course Cory is a funny guy--it goes without saying.... -- Shy Anne, 11:53:09 01/08/05 Sat (adsl-67-112-43-170.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net/67.112.43.170)
But 'mirror mirror on the wall'--the Billies' kid brother is all grown up now-----moonlighting on "Cheat" a few weeks ago, Cory as a 'private eye' in a black leather jacket, white shirt and pale peach colored tie (beautifully complimenting his pale blue eyes) sent the temperature in my house up at least 10 degrees or more. What a charismatic, yet enigmatic guy!

- A NEW PAPA JED at the MINERS '49ers today--Tim Reeder. -- gW, 21:36:51 03/06/05 Sun (adsl-69-235-17-70.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net/69.235.17.70)
Eureka Rick distinguished himself again singing ZZ Top's "Sharp Dressed Man" and he could have been singing about his own Miner costume, the best costume of all the Miners--he could be Doc Holliday or some other elegantly dressed gunslinger and looks like he stepped out of the movie "Once Upon a Time in the West".
And this from a miner who found a banjo in a ditch, and then spent all his time going to school and studying banjo--Banjo I, Banjo II and Banjo III, etc. Rick also sang "I'm on my Way" from "Brother Bear".
Grizzley Dave sang Bill Monroe's "Blue Moon of Kentucky". In case you're interested, Dave's favorite foods are beans, corn bread and collard greens. Smiley Bob who spent 4 years at the Berkeley School of Music, 4 years at Juillard and another 4 years at a place that shall be nameless, sang "Good Ole Mountain Dew".
Candy sang "I've got a pig and a pretty little girl to feed her when I'm gone", and "So this is Love" from Cinderella. Candy told the washboard players that washboard playing is going to be very big (all the rage) and the new Papa Jed showed great expertise in playing the 'spoons' and dancing a jig.
At DUH, the thinking was: two Marks are better than one..... In a Tomorrowland skit, (with lines provided by the audience) Mark I was sent back from the future and played the grand piano (Mozart's
Piano Sonata in C Major, provided by Hal) and came to take Dr. Terwilliger (Mark II) back to the past where Mark I would play the grand piano and then they would travel to the future where he would also play the grand piano. Rob (who is often seen in front of the Golden Horseshoe Saloon in DL as a Laughing Stocker) played Goofy who wanted to know 'who let the dogs out?' Altho Goofy was supposed to be the 'star' of the skit, it soon became apparent that the two Marks were in control discussing travel in their Time Machine which was now finished and ready to go, but the skit ended so they never left, but during the skit there was a whole lot of piano playing going on (Hal).
During audience suggestions, Mark I learned the first principle of Math--fish plus chips equals spaghetti (a principle known only in the Western World).
All three improvers turned in performances 'marked' by robust good spirits and lots and lots of funny bits.

- "Welcome to the Hotel California, such a lovely place, such a lovely face....." -- gW, 20:12:33 02/27/05 Sun (adsl-69-235-34-202.dsl.irvnca.pacbell.net/69.235.34.202)
Sung to perfection by Miner '49er Rick, with Disney's Grand Californian Hotel providing an appropriate backdrop for this haunting song, and for the lively Miners down from the hills hoping to find folks willing to lend an ear and listen to their grand music. Happy folks, those who stay at the hotel, and can look out their windows and see the Miners performing down below. Candy (who decided to 'lose' her apron) sang "I want to be a cowboy's sweetheart, I want to hear the coyotes howling'" and then treated us to the finest yodeling ever heard in the whole DCA/DL area. Also performed--"I've Got no Strings on Me" from "Pinocchio". When it was time to get out the washboards, Papa Jed informed everyone that more than 3 washboard players was called a 'clatter', and after rounding up way more than 3, they had the necessary 'clatter'. One wonders if the Grand Californian guests could hear the 'clatter'?

At the HORSESHOE, Billy Kirque--so happy he has a 'fun' job. Taking the audience into his confidence, Billy said "There are worser jobs than mine", and one hopes he thanks the Good Lord everyday for his good fortune to be a "Billy".

I have just become an annual passholder, and I get to go to a lot more shows, so I thought I had seen all the new stuff. Today, 2/13/05, I was proved totally wrong. Not only did the chicken launch, but Toilet Paper Elvis strutted his great stuff. WOW.
I sent my Billies CD back for signatures and Dennis brought it out. He quietly posed behind two Canadian visitors and got in their shot, unbeknownst to them, then I got a moment to talk to him. Kirk came out, and I was happy to chat with him and find out how to tell when he will do Toilet Paper Elvis. I have a friend who is deeply into Elvis. I think she will greatly enjoy the show.
I really appreciate the new material, even though I would miss the old bits if they went away.
Benita

Billy in Training, aka Scott Gates, just released his first CD today. It's a great CD, but Crazy John's and my favorite tune is one that Scott and Andy wrote for our place in Joshua Tree, the Dusty Boots Corral. (Click link to hear a sample of the song.) Of course, Scott is on mandolin. Andy does the vocal; and we got an even nicer surprise as fiddle and bass are by Evan and John Marshall. Does life get any better than this?

Why can't the Chicken Launch have more of a story to it? -- gW, 00:52:23 01/06/05 Thu (adsl-64-175-109-249.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net/64.175.109.249)
Does it have to be so cold and calculating--the frenetic banjo music, Billies 'buck, bucking', and then BAM!--out flies the chicken and crashes onto the stage, feathers flying?.
Maybe it could start with a doorbell ringing and the Billies go to the door and find a couple of chickens standing there asking for directions to the LA County Fair where they will be competing for 'best' chicken. Well, the Billies with 'winks' all around invite the chickens in and tell them they will get them there in a hurry in their airplane. The chickens are delighted that the Billies will help them and ask if they can come in a freshen up a bit before the journey. With 'winks and nudges' all around, the Billies tell them there is a dressing room upstairs and direct them 'wink, wink', to the booth with the launching pad. While the chickens are smoothing their feathers, the launching pad is secretly activated beneath their feet and then the fun begins. The chickens hear the banjo music and the' buck, bucking', and think it's a CD playing downstairs, but 'wink, wink, nudge, nudge', we all know better! The rest is history which one can read about in their book, "The Billies and Chickens we BAMboozled".

The lastest issue of the New Yorker is running an article, "Sixteen Tons of Fun", about Eric Idle bringing the Holy Grail to Broadway--and it mentions ELVIS:
"Elvis Presley, a big fan, was known to quote Idle's "Nudge Nudge" skit to his friends". One wonders if Elvis also liked the "Spanish Inquisition" skits.
All seriousness aside, if you missed Conan O'Brien last night, you blew it, because Conan, the most creative comic on TV, played a department store Santa who ended up depressed and drinking a Heineken in a bar ( bar=saloon=GHS, Nudge Nudge!). At one point in the skit, Conan put epaulettes on his Santa suit, pinned 'war' medals on the coat and sported a Civil War type sword because he, Conan, wanted to show that Santa had been 'around'. He also refused to wear his belt buckle in the center of his costume and pulled it rakishly over to one side. The first half hour of Conan is presently the best comedy on TV, "I kid you not".

First, the chicken 'launch' would be revised to a 'bungee jumping' chicken wearing a tiny crash helmet, doing away with the present post-launch vacuuming.
Next, Billy Little John would roller skate back and forth across the back of the stage holding a chicken aloft thus creating the 'World's Fastest Chicken'.
Then Billy Mandolin would fire off a rocket powered chicken, all the while shouting 'Oh Billeeee, Oh Billeeeee, Billeeee' supported by the children in the audience chiming in with 'Go Billeee, Yay Billee'.
Lastly, the 'plum' part of the 'barfing' Kermit the Frog would be up for grabs between the rest of the Billies (with Billy Bass and Billy Fiddle 'front' runners).
Conan would be called Billy Barbarian for this special occasion and smilin' Max Weinberg (wearing a Santa hat) would provide the drum rolls (ummm----so tasty!)
(Last night on Conan O'Brien he repeated last year's World's Fastest Menorah, and added a 'Bungee Jumping Jesus', a rocket fired fruitcake and a barfing Kermit the Frog--all for the Holiday Season)

Every Sunday night we listened to Jack, Mary, Don, Dennis and Phil; sometimes Andy Devine visited and they did the skit "Buck Benny rides again". The very best radio shows were the ones he did with Ronald Colman and wife, Benita Hume, and also the ones he did with Jimmy and Gloria Stewart. You didn't want to miss Jack going Christmas shopping and driving Mel Blanc (the sales clerk) up the wall, or having his violin lesson with his teacher (also Mel Blanc, who ended up sobbing with frustration at Jack's violin playing). Phil Harris, (Jack's band leader) was so funny,he got his own radio show; also hilarious.

The New Billy Hill Blue Team CD -- Jan @ JansWorld.net, 01:29:24 05/22/04 Sat (cip-65-99.bbs.surfcity.net/66.116.65.99)
Hey Fellow Billy Hill Blue Team Fans, I just received this e-mail from The Victoria Underground announcing the newest Billy CD..........
Hi! We just wanted to let you know that a new CD has just been released by Kirk Wall and the Billys.
You know them from the Golden Horsehoe Theater as Billy Hill & The Hillbillies [the blue team]. This CD will also be available at Disneyland in a few weeks and eventually, on the Disney Website.......but for those fans who don't want to wait any longer than they have to, here is the web link to CD Baby.
www.cdbaby.com/thebillys

This CD finally captures all the fun of a Billy's show and it includes the full versions of the Billy's combination of Country and Disco (Crisco), and "Stayin' Alive." The Beatles, Badfinger, Petula Clark and Cheap Trick all get Billy-ized on this 16 song CD (And three of them are medleys!!)
Their new website will be up in about a week (Those things take time)....... We think all you fans will love the new CD by the Billys entitled "I Want U 2 Want Me."
The Victoria Underground
*Note from www.jansworld.net - This CD features the Billy Hill Blue Team members; Kirk Wall, Dennis Fetchet, Rick Storey and Anders Swanson and contains the following songs:
1] Ticket To Ride
2] No Matter What
3] Country Boy Medley
4] The Letter
5] Bluegrass Medley
6] Barefoot Nellie
7] Downtown (the full version)
8] How Mountain Girls Can Love
9] I Want You 2 Want Me

When activated, the Billy Blue team's new website is located at www.thebillys.com and is administrated by CD Producer, Ken Roberts. I've heard this CD and it is awesome and a total representation of the Blue Team's Sunday and Monday shows. So run on out and get yours today.

REDNECK ODE TO VALENTINE'S DAY
Kudzu is green, my dog’s name is Blue.
And I’m so lucky, to have a sweet thang like you.
Your hair is like cornsilk, a-flapping in the breeze.
Softer than Blue’s, and without all them fleas.
You move like the bass, which thrill me in May.
You ain’t got no scales, but I luv you anyway.
You’re as graceful as okry, jist a-dancin’ in the pan.
You’re as fragrant as SunDrop, right out of the can.
You have all your teeth, for which I am proud;
I hold my head high, when we’re in a crowd.
On special occasions, when you shave your armpits,
Well, I’m in hawg heaven, I’m plumb outta my wits.
And speakin’ of wits, you’ve got plenty fer shore.
’Cuz you married me, back in ’74.
Still them fellers at work, they all want to know,
What I did to deserve, such a purty young doe.
Like a good roll of duct tape, your there fer yore man,
To patch up life’s troubles, and stick 'em in the can.
You’re as strong as a four-wheeler, racin’ through the mud,
Yet fragile as that sanger, named Naomi Judd.
You’re as cute as a junebug, a-buzzin' overhead.
You ain’t mean like no far ant, upon which I oft tread.
Cut from the best pattern, like a flannel shirt of plaid.
You sparked up my life, like a Rattletrap Shad.
When you hold me real tight, like a padded gunrack,
My life is complete, there ain’t nuthin’ I lack.
Your complexion’s perfection, like the best vinyl sidin’.
Despite all o’ them years, your age, it keeps hidin’.
And when you get old, like a ’57 Chevy,
I won’t put you on blocks, and let grass grow up heavy.
Me ’n you’s like a Moon Pie, with a RC cold drank,
We just go together, like a skunk goes with stank.
Some men, they buy chocolate, for Valentine’s Day;
They get it at Wal-Mart, it’s romantic that way.
Some men get 12 roses, on that special day,
From the cooler at Kroger, “That's impressive,” I say.
Some men buy fine diamonds, from a flea market booth.
“Diamonds are forever,” they explain, suave and couth.
But for this man, my honey, these jist will not do.
For you are too special, you pretty thang you.
So I got you a gift, it’s without taste or odor,
More better than diamonds -It’s a new trollin’ motor!
*sniff* love you all
Dennis

Goofy -- Dennis, 16:16:34 03/18/03 Tue (dialup-63.212.130.46.Dial1.LosAngeles1.Level3.net/63.212.130.46)
Sunday we met Denver Dave for a Billy show and Disneyland fun and games. Later Frima and Tom and others joined us.
Thanks to all eleven warm loving Billy fans in the gang for a great day.
The A team in so we were treated to two great shows. (What else?)
Billy Elvis was taken by a pair of shorts in Walt’s Booth. Bright yellow with black palm leaves. He spoke to the kid wearing them through out the show cracking up the audience each time. Evan played snippets of music much to the delight of the audience who actually recognized the songs and why he played them. Cool! All Billies smiled and seemed to find the experience as enjoyably as did we. The first show started out with a handicap. The mic pole was hidden in the stage barrel. Evan reached in and pulled it out. Billy Elvis made much comedic hay of the occurrence. The boys all came out to sign CDs, but because we wanted Denver Dave to run the days activities during his short visit to Disneyland we shot out of the Shoe for DCA and great Barn Cats music. After the last Billy show our gang trekked over to Goofy’s Kitchen for a late dinned and warm friendly conversation.
A recent birthday was celebrated again. (sigh). Claudia, thanks for the experience (again).
We were part of a column in today’s Orange County Register by Jeff Kramer who was sitting next to us.
During the course of dinner a young man was prompted by the writer to ask his date for her hand in marrage. He gimped out. A quote from Claudia is in the article. Thanks Dave for the gift and thanks to Frima for the card and thanks to the rest for making me feel special.

Dinner on a Disneyland train -- Dennis, 18:53:22 02/10/03 Mon (dialup-63.209.88.7.Dial1.LosAngeles1.Level3.net/63.209.88.7)
I just finished reading Al's latest article and one of the most interesting things he talked about was having meals served on a special DL train. I kinda think this sounds neat. I would love to have dinner on the train. What does everyone else think? Has anyone heard anything about this? What are the chances a Billy might stroll and play a fiddle during the meal??

Club 33 -- Scarlett, 21:59:17 03/03/03 Mon (cache-ntc-ag08.proxy.aol.com/198.81.26.205)
A great time was had celebrating the birthdays of DA and Lisa at Club 33 in Disneyland. Thanks to all who made this day so special for us! After stuffing ourselves silly, we waddled quickly over to the 1:15 Billy show and enjoyed the further company of Frima and Biz (my god-daughter). A good time was had by all and thanks to the Billies for coming out afterward and visiting with us! Starting with me and going counter-clockwise: Me, Robin (my friend), Pam (Sta-lo's friend), Clark, Stacey, Christine, Laura (Christine's friend), Claudia, and DA is taking the picture (naturally). (And DA, I don't see the problem with using parenthesis or starting sentences with conjunctions...) LOL

Howdy Dennis & Claudia! -- Margaret, 18:34:48 02/25/03 Tue (cache-dm07.proxy.aol.com/205.188.209.75)
Just wanted to say thanks again Dennis for all your hard work on Area 51. I only get to see the Billies about once in a blue moon these days, but I religiously read the message board and Area 51. So remember, even if you don't see or hear from me, I'm still one of your biggest fans!
Love to you both,
Margaret

Didn't we all have a great time Sunday! -- Frima, 08:54:32 02/13/03 Thu (adsl-64-174-111-146.dsl.lsan03.pacbell.net/64.174.111.146)
The Lindseys helped make the day very special for my friend, Alex, as well as Tom and I. We all traded puns and jokes fast and furiously. The Billys were exceptionally funny (Alex hasn't seen as many shows as some of us)and Tom came in with his "Ye Haw!" just as they were finishing up. Evan came out afterwards to chat, even though it was the last show.

Is anyone bringing a sign or banner?
I am getting a banner made by the students at John Marshall Middle School. Is that cool or what?

River Rascals and Barncats -- Lisa, 12:27:40 02/04/03 Tue (NoHost/209.177.61.2)
FYI, the River Rascals will be playing at the park Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, along with their normal Thursday and Friday schedule. The Strutters are out on the road, so the Rascals kindly are filling in for them.
Rascal/Barncat Dave will not be at the park Friday with the Rascals or Saturday with the Barncats. He told me where he was going, but I forgot! I believe he said Anders was filling in for him in the Rascals and Johnny Ray for the Barncats, but again, I'm not remembering it all very clearly.

Evan and Kirk will both be gone these days. Duane will fill in for Evan and haven't heard yet who will fill in for Kirk. It all depends on the Laughing Stock Company's schedule!

Billies -- Scarlett, 22:33:35 01/25/03 Sat (cache-ntc-ag08.proxy.aol.com/198.81.26.205)
Sunday Jan. 26th, Cory will be subbing for Kirk. Kirk is out all weekend for Superbowl. :)
Evan is not putting in a different song for billy tell. They had sound problems all day last Monday and he had to play his mandolin very hard, so by the last show, he asked the others if they could do a different song because he was tired and hurting and felt he couldn't give 100% to Billy Tell. He is back to playing Billy Tell today and even busted a string!!
