Gwenneth nodded in acquiescence to Rio. Her curiousity had been stirred and she felt sure that her imagination would take flight during their spare moments, but for now there was the more pressing problem of the three they followed.

::Hey...:: spoke Angelina tentatively into the mindlink, addressing all three guardians. ::We need weapons. Can you help us? Get them, I mean. Like, show us some good wood to make a spear or two. It'd make Jeff calm down.::

The g.irl scowled indignantly at Alexis. "Me?" she said loudly. "I should say I speak your language pretty darn good, considerin' I know six." She smiled haughtily and took a few steps down the moist trail. "Say, we found the trail that leads right into the pass! Am I a good tracker, or what?"
Jeff exchanged an eye-roll with Alexis and spoke to Angie. "You know six languages?" he asked, sincerely interested.
"Yep. Meshelib terenah pan inenlae!"
Jeff stared; something in the harsh notes of the alien language sent a shiver up his spine. "What was that?? And what did you say?"
"Oh, that's..." Angie began breezily, but trailed off. Her back was to the other two and so her face was unreadable, but her shoulders had tensed suddenly. "I learned it where I was born, when I was a real little g.irl. What I said means I am much smarter than you are!" Her voice was light again and she cast about in the woods beside the path for anything suitable to make a weapon from.
Jeff looked at Alexis with raised eyebrows and shrugged.
