"Is that so?" Jeff panted, glaring. "My friend? You must have a different definition of friend than I do. Poor, helpless Alexis. Well, do you know what? As far as I'm concerned, you're one of them. So just get out of my way." With tears stinging at the backs of his eyes, he stormed past the pale g.irl and blundered further into the woods.
A moment later, Gwenneth dashed up, with the shadow of Rio close behind. She paused and looked up at Alexis, and when she spoke her voice was kind. ::Do not take his words to heart, child. He does not understand. We mustn't give up on him.:: With a determined expression, she took off again, slipping easily through the brush. Rio, though much larger, made no sound as she trotted along beside the tiny cat.
::He is too hard-headed for his own good,:: Gwenneth commented to the black wolf. ::We shouldn't confront him yet... We'll just follow him for awhile, shall we? He's exhausted mentally-- he won't get too much farther.::
Indeed, Jeff soon began to slow. The adrenaline had burned off, leaving only a smouldering, painful anger in his stomach. He glanced bitterly over his shoulder, but the campfire was out of sight. Gwenneth slowed to a halt beside Rio, and the pair of them watched the boy intently. But Jeff didn't seem disposed to any more fits of violent action; he stuffed his hands in his coat pockets and sniffed, staring into the darkness as the woods loomed all around him.
"What a day," he muttered. Gwenneth had to smile. The boy sighed, blew an errant strand of hair out of his face, and stumped resolutely into the darkness.
::Monet, Gabriel,:: Gwenneth called softly. ::The boy does not seem inclined to return anytime soon. I'm going to follow him... Rio, you are welcome to accompany me if you wish, but I place no bond on you to continue. Worry not, dear friends-- I will closely mark his movements, and when he sleeps we'll see what we can do about bringing him back.::

Kalea looked anxiously after the wolf and the cat as they hurried into the woods in hot pursuit of the boy. "Yeah... I guess you're right," she said, sitting down again reluctantly.
"What're you so uptight about?" Angie asked her. "Geez, everyone's acting so weird around here. What's the deal with that guy?" She glanced suspiciously after Jeff, then shrugged.
"Plenty left," she said to Gabriel, pointing a toe at the remaining meat. "Help yourself."
