Haven't really thought much about it, it's Robin's idea at first that 1st round knocked outs from adv joined 2nd round of inter. I then edtended to include 1st round knocked outs of inter join 2nd round of novice.

Understand the problems you mentioned. however the situation you described obove won't happen. Because the terrible dancer who fails 1st of adv, then join 2nd round inter, if he stays he stays. If he's knocked out that's it. So basically everybody who decided to dance up would only have one more second chance at the next level.
