I just found this site. It brought back a lot of memories. I used to party with Stolze and will miss him. He was one of a kind. Joan Hicks was sweet and had a lot of class, sad to here of her passing. The Hardt's let me have my lettermans sweater before I paid for it, as times were tough for a while after my dad died. They cared. A highway name change is a small thing for all their kindness. I did 22 years in the US Navy and retired as a Chief Petty Officer. I now live in Craig Alaska (Prince of Wales Island)I am the Director of a small non profit Substance Abuse Treatment Agency and I also do Bear Hunting trips and Halibut & Salmon Charters. I love it here, Arizona to Alaska go figure.

I just finished reading the poems of Recardo Lucero on Euclid Ave. I would like to let you all out their know, that I was raised on Euclid Ave. and very proud of our street. I may not know all the names he had mentioned but I do know almost half of them! why because I grew up with there kids and grandkids played on the streets with them like kick the can, hide and seek, motorcross bike riding, army men gang fights with the blake street gang. Barbies, tea house, doctors (ha,ha,ha) and alot of sleep overs. If there are any Euclid people out there who would like to see where we all ended lets talk! Some names The Bakers, Tewksburys, Herreras, Moyas, Nash, ( I'm a Avalos) Naters, Whiteas, Tarango,s Ontiveros, and if I missed any get in touch.
I know that some of our family are gone and I would like to say May God Bless you!

I am trying to recall the name of an old comedy movie from sometime in the late 50's or early 60's. In a chase scene in the movie, the ASU Marching Band was in a parade marching through the streets of Flagstaff and the chase was back and forth through the marching band. The band was led by Cloin Watts, Drum Major from Globe, class of 1955. If anyone else out there remembers this scene and/or anything else about the movie, please email me or post here. Thank much, Jo

Hello again,
Haven't visited the site in a while, but its nice to see some familiar names floating around - some younger, some older. Hope everyone is doing well and in good health. Still haven't heard from anyone from the class of '77. I was sorry to hear that one of my team mates from football days passed away. Hey Flo-Jo...glad to hear you are doing well. I remember some of the gang from around your neighborhood, but I didn't get a chance to make it over that way much. I do remember you used to go to a lot of ball games up on the hill. Guess there aren't a lot of people from the class of '76 - 79 out there. Sure would like to hear from some of them.

Globe Alumni,
Its been awhile since I last was home. When I saw that the G had been stripped of its American Pride, this was very dissapointing for me. I am forward deployed and it means a lot to have support. There are too many students who have left to serve from our area and this act of vandalism is disrespectful towards us now and those who had gone before us. Has there been any effort to repaint the "G".

Just to let eveyone know, I have initiated a new Message Board forum. The forum has been installed on the same server as The Tiger Den web site. The URL is: http://www.ghstigerden.com/PHPBB/forum/index.php. Or you can click on the MESSAGE BOARD link at the top of any Tiger Den web page.

While you can post to all but one forum there right now, I would prefer you become a registered user. Just click on the Register icon and link at the top of the page. Read the Registration Agreement and click on the first link displayed (I don't think any alumni is under the age of 13) at the bottom of the screen to fill in the registration form.

You must enter a valid E-mail address in order to register. Do not enter your E-maill address in any other block; otherwise eveyone will see it. Please complete the field for location (state alone will suffice). In the signature field, enter the year you graduated from GHS, or the last year you attended GHS.

When you click the SUBMIT button, the system will send you an activation E-mail. When it arrives, it will have the user name and account password you supplied, along with a link to activate the account. Once you activate the account, you will be able to post messages to any discussion topic.

Since the online message board is a totally different system than this voy.com message board, any user accounts and passwords WILL NOT transfer over. You MUST re-register on the new board.

I will shut this message board down in a few months.

Greetings to all. I'm from the class of 85, but don't really know too many people or never kept in touch. Peridot (La Bumba City) and Globe were two worlds apart. The daily bus ride was something in itself! I was reading through the messages and came across the one about Globe beating Greyhills in basketball several years ago. I'm a teacher/administrator on the Navajo Reservation and I have in-laws who are from Tuba City (Greyhills). Basketball is BIG on the rez. Anyways, my brother-in-law's child played on the team that was beaten. It was almost devastating for the loss against Globe. However, that wasn't the case with me! I had all the school spirit that I should have had 18 years earlier! (yeah, I used to sit up in the rafters during pep assemblies, unless Ms. Rice chased us down) I live in Ft. Defiance and come down to see my family quite often. As soon as I could, I visited GHS with my children and went to the bookstore to buy some souvenir t-shirts and water bottles. Boy do I love to wear Globe Tiger shirts at family gatherings (in-law gatherings). I just thought I'd share this with all of you.

I went to the post office today in Huachuca City to mail a package to classmate Eloise Price. While weighing the package, the clerk noticed Eloise's name on the mailing label and announced "Hey, I know her!"

To which I replied, "Oh, Really?"

And she said, "Yes, I used to live in Globe."

"Oh yeah?" I answered in a surpised tone, and then pointed to the package. "I'm from Globe and went to school with her."

The clerk did a double-take and looked at the return address on the package. Then she looked up at me and asked "Are you the guy with the web site?"

Of course, I said, yep. Turns out the clerk was none other than Kelly Blanco.

'Tis a small small world indeed.

Globe wrestler , Chet Huelskamp, who wrestles in the 275 lb. weight class captured his second state Championship Title Sat. Feb. 15 at the 2004 Arizona State Wrestling Tournament held at the Veterans Colisieum in Phoenix. Huelskamp. who finshed the regular season with a rather impressive 42-0 undefeated season, not only captured the state championship title, but also pinned his way through the entire tournament. Huelskamp has been selected to compete in the Arizona All-star wrestling match which is held at Casa Grande High School on Feb. 28 at 2;00 P.M. Also, the senior wrestling sensation has been invited to compete in the National High School Coaches Association Senior Champions Wrestling Tournament which is held in Cleveland, Ohio April 2-4 . As the Globe School District contributes NO funds for Huelskamp to compete in this tournament where he represents not only the school but the entire community on a national level. We are asking if any individual or business would like to help with a financial contribution to contact Coach Robert Loveless at 928-473-4037 or 928-425-3211. Any contribution would be greatly appreciated.

Subject: The Paradox Of Our Time

Author:
who me?
[ Edit | View ]

Date Posted: 19:30:35 01/30/04 Fri

The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we but more but enjoy less.
We have bigger houses and smaller families, more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgement; more experts, yet more problems, more medicine, but less wellness.
We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry, stay up too late, and get up too tired, read too little, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom. We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values.
We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years to life not life to years.
We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done things, but not better things.
We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've conquered the atom, but not our prejudice. We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait.
We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but we communicate less and less.
These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; big men and small characters; steep profits and shallow relationships. These are the days of two incomes but more divorce, fancier houses but broken homes.
These are days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throwaway morality, one-night stands, overweight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet, to kill.
It is a time when there is much in the window show and nothing in the stockroom. A time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit "delete".
Remember, spend more time with your loved ones, because they are not going to be around forever. Remember, say a kind word to someone who looks up to you in awe, because that little person soon will grow up and leave your side.
Remember, to give a warm hug to the one next to you, because that is the only treasure you can give with your heart, and it doesn't cost a cent.
Remember, to say "I love you" to your partner and your loved ones, but most of all mean it. A kiss and an embrace will mend hurt when it comes from deep inside of you. Remember to hold hands and cherish the moment for someday that person will not be there again. Give time to love, give time to speak, give time to share the precious thoughts in your mind.
To all my friends, even if the friendship is only formed because we all attended Globe High School in person or only in time, thanks for being there. The secret of life is not to have everything you want, but to want everything you have.

Hi to classes '68 -'70! I am trying to find out whatever happened to one of my "buds" I used to hang with back in high school - were were all in the band like one big family - we fondly remember "Nunie" the director - Anyway, his name was Alan Jenkins, class of '69. He was a big, tall, blond guy who played baritone horn and drove a little Datsun 4-door. Anybody know anything?

I would like to express my deep apperication to all those who helped in making the memory book of Joan Hicks life possible. Many of you have gone out of your way to contribute information and photographs. A special "THANK You", goes to Dee Hunt and her staff at Globe High School for researching and photocopying the information for the book.Dee made contacts to Terri, a cheerleader that was one of Joan's best friends. She also contacted the minister who did Joan's funeral. He wrote a beatiful letter about Joan. Also, to Karl Foerster who saw my quiery here on the Tiger Den and answered it and sent me information on people who knew Joan. I tried to contact Gay Ann Sparks who wrote that she too was Joan's best friend, but have not heard from her. I did use her comments about what she wrote about Joan on the message board. I still would like to contact her if anyone could help me with that. I am finishing up the book today for Joan's daughter and grandchildren for Christmas. Still, if anyone has anything else they would like to say contact me please. I can always add more to the book later. Anyone who would like to talk to Michelle about her mother, Joan please e-mail me and I will give her the information to contact you. Thank you all and have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR. You have some wonderful people in Arizona, and our best regards from Texas, Sharon Locke Wright

I would like to take this time to remember Charles James Condit a Member of the Class of 2000. U will be missed by all of us and We will think of you at the reunion in 2010. My heart goes out to his family and the rest of my fellow classmates and his Fiancee Miss Jamie Moran. This event was a tragedy and it reminds you of how short life is. CJ, you have almost made me afraid to ever go to Phoenix again. U will have a place in my heart and mind and I know that you are in a better place now but you will be missed. U are my guardian angel!! I cant wait to see you one day!!

For those interested in a free calling service, peer to peer, operates the same as Kazaa and other such programs, go to www.skype.com and download the software. Currently, over 3 million users worldwide and growing. The only limitations are the person you are calling must also have the program installed and be online at the time you call. Good way to stay in touch at no cost with anyone in the world! Another program is Download2home, again free on ZDNET.com, allows you to use a free server from anywhere on the web to download anything to your home computer...no more copying to disk/cd from a remote location and taking it home to install. For those game lovers, Grand Theft Auto is now available on ZDNET.com for free as well, 326MB file so it will take a while to download. Enjoy, relax, at least you're not in upstate NY for the winter...not where I thought I'd ever end up but life leads and we all follow! Adios, until the next time, stay safe!

The class of 1976 has lost another great person.

Patricia Norris a long time good friend of mine since the 3rd grade at Central School has passed away.

Pat moved away from Globe after high school, like everyone wants to do, but was happy to be back in good old Globe these last few years.

She will be very greatly missed but she will never ever be forgotten.

Rest in Peace Girlfriend.....

My name is Sharon Wright and while I did not go to Globe High my daughter in laws mother did. Her name was Joan Hicks. I think she may have grad. in 1966. She was killed in a car wreck when her daughter Michelle was only 6mo. old. I am making a book for her for Christmas about her mother. She was a cheerleader there at Globe High School.I don't know what year she was a cheerleader. Michelle dosen't know much about her mother as she was killed when she was a baby.I would appreciate any information that anyone may have about Joan. Maybe someone remembers what she was like or something special about her that you could tell her daughter and Joans' grandchildren so I can put it in the book. Maybe you knew who her best friends were and just maybe you were her best friend. Please e-mail me , I know that Joan would thank you if she could. Best regards, Sharon Wright

I had a great time at our Multi-year class reunion this past weekend. It was great getting to meet those of you who have posted comments here and on Classmates.com, to be able to match a face with a name. Even some of my own classmates, who recognized my name, but could not picture me!!!

The staff at the Apache Gold Casino did an outstanding job for us. They were extremely helpful and courteous and very professional. I have to recommend them to any other class which is planning a reunion. I feel we got our money's worth and more for the three-day shindig. The facilities were great, and with the hotel being within easy walking/staggering/crawling distance, everyone could have a great time.

I have to recommend our DJ as well -- he did an excellent job. I will have to get his name posted here for you. (Senior moment -- can't remember!) For the younger crowd, just to let you know, he is L O U D!!! He was too loud most of the time for our around 50-something crowd.

Thank you all for attending. I'm glad you made it and hope you had as much fun as I did. It looked like most of you were having a good time.

Pictures and other details soon to be posted on The Tiger Den Photo Album pages.

While I was visiting Globe a couple of weeks ago for the '65-'72 reunion, I had lunch with an old friend from City Band (and our own dance band), Al Siniaho, a Miami graduate. Al mentioned that he thought that Diane Fisher, a horn player from the GHS class of '67 or '66, is a horn player in a major U.S. orchestra. Anyone know anything about her?

My name is, or was, Carol Berver, and I lived in Globe until 1962. It was wonderful to find this website. I did not want to move away, and I deeply missed my old classmates. Safford never seemed as friendly as Globe. I am married to Robert Fly and have one daughter, Erin, who is attending New Mexico State Univ. I work at Eastern Ariz. College as an English/Writing tutor. We live in Fort Thomas. Since we are "empty nesters," we have a little extra cash now and then, so we drove up to Globe last weekend and had a nice visit with Earl and Linda Bacon. If there is anyone who can remember that far back, I'd love to hear from you. Carol

(1) SR188 Globe to Roosevelt to the BeeLine hwy

If you knew Senator AV Bill Hardt or his wife Athia, please read this note and consider writting a letter to the Highway Department to support renaming SR188 Globe to Roosevelt to The Beeline Highway to Senator Hardt Road. If you're not old enough to remember Bill and Athia Hardt at the Unique Sporting Goods, ask an older family member or friend about them.

"The Gila County Board of Supervisors is seeking to rename State Route 188 the stretch of highway from US 60 to SR 87, to Senator Hardt Highway to honor the late A.V. "Bill" Hardt.
Senator A.V. "Bill" Hardt, better known as "Mr. Rural Arizona" served longer in the Arizona State Senate than any other legislator and during that time, represented portions of seven counties.
Senator Hardt retired from his District 4 seat in 1996 at the age of 89 completing his 30th year in the Arizona Legislature. 28 of those years in the Senate and 2 years in the House of Representative.
In 1994, Senator Hardt was inducted into the Arizona Democratic Hall of Fame and was honored by the University of Arizona's establishment of a Community and Rural Development Endowment in his name.
Senator Hardt was always a champion for and a staunch supporter of the Arizona Department of Transportation. Through his legislative support of that agency, many state highway projects were enhanced.
This Board, on behalf of the residents of Gila County and many others in District 4, respectfully requests your support of the renaming of SR 188 honoring Senator Hardt by a recommendation of the Geographic and Historic Names Board to the Arizona State Transportation Board.
Send letters in support of the renaming to: Linda Strock Geographic and Historic Names Board, 1700 W. Washington St., Ste 200, Phoenix, Arizona 85007."

MY THANKS TO ALL OF YOU, JO (HARDT) FOTI

Any ideas how to get ahold of her or her sister?? I saw her name in Classmates.com, so I hope she is still around Globe. I am now living in northern California, pursuing my dream of training horses. Got the "horse bug" in 4-H back in the early '70's with Gene Hazen and his daughters. Any one remember me or Becky?? Send me a reply.

Hey class of 85' how's it been going? Haven't really heard from anybody over the years, do see some that are still in Globe, YEAH I'M STILL HEAR AAAAAAGGGGHHHHH!!!. Left for college (U of A) as soon as I could get out of Globe. Had a great time, but didn't do as well as I should have. Anyway came back home and got married---divorced 2 years later. I then went back to school (Gateway Community) and became a respiratory therapist. Came back to Globe so my parents could help take care of my daughter and haven't left since. Did remarry and have been married to Mike for 10 years. Yes, he is older then I am (11 years). Anyway I am currently the Cardiopulmonary Manager at the old Miami-Inspiration Hospital-now Cobre Valley Community Hospital. My daughter Miranda will be 12 years old this September. My husband works at ASARCO. He has 3 childen (Lisa-25, Shelvin-21, Dusty-29-deceased) and 4 grandchildren (Anissa-7, Andrew-2, Mikey-18 months, and Gabriel-7 months) so in a roundabout way I am a grandma (ha, ha). Have learned to appreciate Globe more then I thought I ever would. Do get the urge to leave now and then, but as of yet haven't made the move. Hopefully within a couple of years, as I am going back to school at the ripe old age of 35 to become a nurse. Anyway would love to hear from anybody-many of you are still in my thoughts.

Take care.

I wish to express my sincere and heartfelt congratulations to the Globe High School Graduating Class of 2003, and my grandniece April Tolman in particular. May most, if not all, of your dreams come true. If you think the hard work is all behind you, think again. You are in nearly total control of your future, of your successes or failures in life. Remember that it is not the failures that will hold you back, it is whether you pick yourself up and move on with life, and face the next challenge with renewed resolve. The choice is yours alone. Learn from your mistakes so that you do not repeat them. You will truly fail only if you fall and never get back up. NEVER GIVE UP!

This message goes out to all who graduated from GHS in 1982. What's up with your bad selves...or good selves as the case may be?
I was unable to attend the 10th or the 20th year reunions. I think I really missed out on the 20th.
I go to Globe to visit my mom fairly regularly. Once in a blue moon I'll run into an old classmate- Margie Wrist; Joe Taylor; Lalonie (was Brewer-Taylor)
From my party days with Julie Parks and Cathy Breitwell, I moved to Phoenix- got tremendously involved in the Christian Church. Went to Mexico and built a lot of houses. Became a Youth Minister for a while. Moved to California to attend college. Just stayed there a couple of years. I decided I hadn't lost anything there and moved back to Phoenix. My dad passed away in 1994 after a long on again off again battle with cancer. I lost the love of my life in Septemeber of 2002. I'm just now beginning to pick up the pieces and move on. I know a lot of you have had wonderful lives and also terrible tragedy....I remain in your ranks. I hope this writing finds you all in good spirit and health.
All my best to all of you.

Globe High Tigers Boys Basketball is currently 20-0 after wining Tuesdays game against Coolidge 64-60 it was one of the best games I have seen, we will probably have another State Championship if they keep wining like this.
