OK - this might piss a lot of people off. I don't agree with this review. I also don't see where the film is misogynistic. I will explain why. This is just my honest opinion and everyone is free to discuss and disagree all you want - just don't call me bad names! haha

I don't follow the comment about jean grey's sexual identity conflict. maybe i am just being naive, but wasn't her conflict over the limits (or lack thereof) of her powers and when she should use them? it is my understanding that jean grey is (or was) the most powerful of the mutants? (if anyone is familiar with brian michael bendis, us fellow comic book freaks would say she is a level 9)

ok another problem i have with this review is the comment about a soda bottle being phallic and wolverine hitting on iceman?

come on now, anyone who watches this movie without bias understands that this scene is included to show how wolverine, once the lone wolf of the x-men is coming into his own maturity by telling rogue's boyfriend (note there are no quotes on my boyfriend, cause that's what he is) that there are no hard feelings.

remember that rogue has a thing for wolverine and earlier in the movie iceman was kinda standoffish about the whole thing. this scene with the soda is just to show wolverine trying to smooth over the rocky beginnings and forge a friendship. nothing remotely homoerotic is happening in this scene imho.

now that being said the "coming out" scene with iceman is very cool and very positive. as soon as i saw it i knew EXACTLY what they were getting at. also it would be cool to know where every single queer person in the world is. and that is true for both sides. and the reactionary politicians are a great social commentary; however i think the author of this essay read too much into this film and put his own slant and agenda into too many of the scenes.

this reminds me of another article again FROM THE LOS ANGELES TIMES that someone wrote about the movie "the fast and the furious" (which i have never seen so i can't discuss this further). the author was saying how great it was that the hero was black and his girlfriend was white. he went on to show that every scene in the movie was not about street racing, but a giant metaphor for race relations and equality from what i understand, his review was way off base and biased which of itself is not necessarily harmful; however, the head of the national alliance william (thank god he's dead) pierce took this mans article and skewed it into a hate letter
click here to read it that went out to thousands of people across america. he went on to say how jews (a jewish man, Rob Cohen directed it for a jewish man who owns universal studios, ) are trying to mix the "mud races " with the whites by making a movie that kids will think is cool "illegal street racing" and putting in their own agendas. and that simply wasn't true.

he then went on to site this black author and say "see, they are even bragging about it." which convinced even more people that there must be a conspiracy. i could easily see the same thing happening with this
"jews are making comic books into fag movies, need proof? here are the gay guys bragging about how they are recruiting the youth" or something of that nature. so i guess my point is. read into movies where it is fitting. and just enjoy the mutant escapism the rest of the time.

Misogyny is such a harsh term, that we all really need to be very careful before leveling that accusation at anyone.

The misogyny is entirely in this guy's review, not in the movie. This is a good example of why a person shouldn't smoke pot and go critique a film. HAHA.

I didn't see it at all in this movie. And I don't see it in the comic books that I read. In fact, all of Brian Michael Bendis' books have very strong female leads. Now, if you were talking about 1950s thru 1070s comics, I will certainly agree with you. All that women had to look up to was Wonder Woman. That was it.

But since the mid 80's when indy comic companies started surfacing, females have been the heroines, the stars, the equals of the men characters. Just turn to books like Alias, Powers, the new batman series, (catwoman saves batman's ass in almost every issue), The Preacher series, The Maxx, Daredevil, X-Men, - I dont read a whole lot of mainstream comics but I'm sure there others. and then, look at all the spin off books that marvel and DC are putting out. You have, you know, Batgirl, SpiderGirl (or spider woman - I dont read them so I'm not sure), HarleyQuin is like one of the best selling books out there right now (she started out as joker's g/f), Eletra has her own comic book series now, Lady Death, the list is just endless of females who have strong leading roles.

As for the X2 movie, if I remember correctly, jean grey, sacrifices herself for the good of all the Xmen. Storm saves everyone's ass several times. And earlier in the film, jean Grey took down a missle that none of the men could stop.

So if we break it down, by actual super powers, the men have strong bones (haha), lazers for eyes, the ablility to freeze water, thats about it!

Now the women in Xmen have the power to suck out the life of any living being when we KNOW FOR A FACT that men are better at sucking! (hahaha), they can change entire weather system and cause massive natural disasters (its not nice to fuck with mother nature! haha), AND jean grey has powers so great that no one can even comprehend them. It seems to me that women are much stronger and have better powers than the men in this movie.

When he refers to jean grey's forbidden heterosexual love??? SHUT UP! The fact that it's heterosexual does not make it "forbidden", its the fact that she HAS a boyfriend and he is missing. and wolverine tries to move in. It's monogomy, NOT homosexuality, and certainly not CONFUSION that makes her turn down wolverine.

Oh and another point, while we're talking about females with amazing super powers, (this is what happens when someone takes on a comic book nerd like me haha)

Mystique is another strong female lead who has the ability to look and sound identical with anyone in the whole world. YOu know! Which one would you like best - that ability, that? or bright eyes? hahaha.

also, she is a computer hacker (another female compute Goddess like Alie!). She's the one they call on when they needed anything remotely smart done! All the men, they were like "blow that up" or "tear that down". The women in the movie always figured out what was going on, and always saved the day. Storm beat the one bad guy and jean grey saved the day. So if anything, this movie is against men and now I'M ANGRY because it's ANTI-MEN! HAHAHAAA What is the term for beign anti-men....feminism? HAHHAHAA

HAHA I was just joking!

It's like that tee-shirt that I wear to women's rights conferences or meetings that says "I'm a feminist because bitches love that shit." hahahaa My feminist female friends always beat me up over that (but they love me!) They know it's a joke and they laugh.
