Subject: What a load of patronising BS. It's this kind of nationalistic, "we're americans, we are the best" self-aggrandising self-righteous self-congratulatory twaddle that Europeans find simultaneously pretensious, nauseating, laughable and sinister..
In reply to: Drew Greyfox 's message, "What Bush and the conservatives need to understand is that they are the ones who need to be loyal to us, they are employees of the people. They're not supposed to give orders, they're supposed to take them. What are we supposed to be proclaming our loyalty to? Obviously it's his policies and wars. I'd like to take this chance to proclame my loyalty to the Constitution that GW has been wiping his ass with. What next, billboards of a smiling GW reminding us to be loyal and obiedient subjects?" on 09:15:54 05/09/03 Fri

Who the fuck does he think he is? Is the idea that America isn't loyal enough, so they need a special day to motivate them?

"The world has seen again the fine character of our Nation through our military"

Was this when they were firing into a crowd of unarmed civilians, or dropping cluster bombs in villages or "precision-bombed" the hell out of a restaurant that Hussein just left, or blowing up their own people/allies half the time?

"as they fought to protect the innocent and liberate the oppressed"

Let's get this straight: they didn't fight for the Iraqis' freedom - they ostensibly fought to disarm Hussein of his WMDs - but we all know neither of these was the real reason.

"why freedom is worth protecting"

Is this meant to imply that Bush IS protecting freedom? He should try telling Ashcroft this for a change, or maybe the Democrats.

And now for the whammy:
"We are honored by the service of foreign nationals in our Armed Services whose willingness to risk their lives for a country they cannot yet call their own is proof of the loyalty this country inspires. Their service and sacrifice are a testament to their love for America"

Is he talking about UK/Australian troops???? That's what it sounds like - fighting for the greater glory of America? WE are fighting for AMERICA?? What is this guy on? Fucking self-glory power trip, that's what. Not only does he not give a shit about the will of the so-called 'democratic' America or the rest of the world when he makes decisions, starts a war to keep the peace, perpetrates war crimes, suppresses civil liberties, is vastly corrupt, is using the war for his own profit etc, etc, etc, etc, etc, but he has the damned nerve to then pretend he's the best. It's quite simple: he's pissing on the American people and smiling and telling them theyre the best at the same time. Maybe John Ashcroft should introduce and "American freedom" day (with some sort of patronising catch phrase like "because civil liberties are worth protecting").

As Dr Johnson put it, "patriotism is the last refuge of the scoundrel". I think "scoundrel" fits Dubya down to the ground. This's got me really irate.
