I think it brings up issues and makes people think a lot more - even if it's just subconscious, people register that they sympathise with the mutants and in one scene at least (the one with Iceman) it's really obviously treated like coming out. It's the same sort of subtle conditioning which has been used for decades to undermine gays in media, only this time it's positive rather than negative.

Also it's great cos its a family film, and so parents will see it with their children and hopefully think "those parent characters are wrong to reject their son for who he is". I hope there are more films that use their huge influence to change people's views, however subtly.
