I understand if Obi-Wan killed Anakin, there'd be no Eps' 4, 5, or 6, but my complaint's the way the encounter was resolved ambiguously. If Anakin had fallen back onto the raft in the middle of the lava, if the shore he'd landed upon had broken away and begun floating away, then you can understand why Obi-Wan couldn't get to him. As it was, Obi should've/could've finished off Anakin.

As for Padme . . . the one thing I liked about her dying is that it fulfilled Anakin's premonition. I'm sure that originally many would've thought he was being insecure, or that vision had been planted in his mind by the Emperor, but in the end all the power he sought was the reason she died. But . . .

. . . (apologies, but I must now dissect) . . .

* the Emperor tells the newly born Vader that Padme's died, which puts the nail in the coffin of his turn to the Dark Side. However, at some point in the near future they have to acknowledge the existence of Luke, which (to me at least) would reveal that the Emperor lied to Vader about Padme being killed by him. She must've survived to some extent to give birth to Luke.
* in Return of the Jedi Leia tells Luke she knew her mother, so there's an incongruity there.

Of course, Lucas has plenty of them where there's contradictions between the prequels and the originals, (i.e. in Empire Obi-Wan told Luke to go to seek out Yoda, the Jedi Master who instructed him - but Obi-Wan's apparently educated by Qui-Gonn, and in Jedi says when he met Anakin he was an accomplished pilot; while you could twist the events to suggest that about Anakin in Phantom, it's not the initial impression you got, etc.).

Okay, I'll stop being such a nerd now.
