"Over the past few years Visa has made major inroads into B2B payments in North America and Europe, and this may be replicated in growth in the Middle East", says regional manager, Peter Scriven. "Corporate purchasing and B2B is globally estimated at USD 18 trillion a year, versus current annual global Visa payments of USD 2.3 trillion", Scriven notes. But banks should not feel threatened, since "Visa's payment systems simply move banks towards the most effective way of transferring money, and this in no way challenges banks as corporate payment intermediaries", Scriven emphasizes.
-----------------------------------------------------------
"Visa does say to the banks that if they are developing their own B2B payment systems, there is little point in investing millions to produce a parallel system", Scriven reveals. B2B transaction processing costs at some businesses can take 25 per cent of the value of a purchase, whereas "Visa can reduce that to about 5 per cent", Scriven says.
