On 5th April 2002, GICS became the method used for classifying companies listed on the ASX. As a result, from 5th July 2002, the 24 ASX sector indices will no longer be calculated and will be replaced with sector indices based on GICS, as shown above. GICS has been jointly developed by Standard and Poor's and MSCI to provide one consistent method of classifying companies throughout the world. It will form the framework through which international investors consider investment opportunities in Australia, and more importantly will provide a means for Australian investors to compare our companies and sectors with those of other stock exchanges. Further information on GICS is available on the Standard and Poor's website. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
