(not that ERG have done that in the last year - lol) However, ERG does not have to worry about this until three years as the share price performance payment is not due until the shares are sold. Amex, Visa and Interpay are not allowed to sell shares for three years unless authorised by ERG. The Vitara is definitely cheap, with prices starting at $16,000. It's bouncy, too, inspiring ear-to-ear grins while bounding over bumps and dips. And it's fun-just plain fun to drive. Equally true, though, is that the Vitara is cheap, as in rife with cheap materials. It's bouncy, as in bone-jarring on bumpy roads. And it's fun, as in more of a plaything than a long-distance cruiser. Remember the Samurai? This is its spiritual successor, particularly in two-door convertible form (the four-door hardtop version is a bit more mature). To be fair, the Vitara is considerably more evolved in every way than the notoriously tippy and unreliable Samurai, both on-road and off. For 2002, the Vitara's base trim levels have been dropped, leaving only the better-equipped JLS and JLX, with standard air conditioning, keyless entry, power windows and locks, a CD player, and sixteen-inch wheels. Four-door models add cruise control, split fold-down seats, roof rails, and a rear wiper. Suzuki also ditched the wimpy 1.6-liter engine, which means that every 2002 Vitara is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that puts out 127 hp. The lighter and less expensive two-wheel-drive JLS is fine if you stay on the road, but only the JLX's part-time, shift-on-the-fly four-wheel-drive system allows you to take full advantage of the Vitara's short overhangs, body-on-frame construction, generous ground clearance, and tight turning circle when in search of off-road adventure.
