Subject: Good News Ideas

SInce you seem to be a little challenged in coming up with ideas for good news, here are some to get you started:

1) Some of your titleholders have graduated from high school. What are their college plans? Schools? Majors?

2) Some of your titleholders have graduated from college. Career plans? Graduate school? Where?

3) Any current or former contestants getting engaged or married? Photos of attractive couples always welcome.

4) When's your pageant being held? Where? Might as well get some free publicity. If you want to let potential contestants know about orientation meetings or other events, you can do that here.

5) Any former titleholders up to anything interesting? People love hearing about it.

6) Have a fund raiser or other pageant event for your local coming up? Let people know.

7) Anything to brag about? Your titleholder or one of your local contestants was recognized for some achievement? You got a promotion at work?

While some of this type of news may be on Facebook, or not, this is a great secondary place to put it. Here's why: This board has the Miss California name on it, and while the title includes the word "Unofficial" it is, like it or not, part of the Internet presence of the Miss California Organization. Everyone who posts can contribute to how the Organization is perceived by other state organizations and by the general public that passes thru - and that could include potential new contestants and their parents.

So, more positive content can and will make a difference. Yes, there are issues, and yes, they can be debated here, because there is no other place people can debate them freely. But when doing so, please use your head and your heart. Try to err on the side of rational argument, not emotional ranting. Avoid name calling - it went out of fashion the minute you crossed the threshold from middle school to high school. Don't make accusations without some form of proof, and please don't say "I have proof" and then not offer it up. If you don't show the proof, even if it is only to me in an email, then I'm going to assume you're not telling the truth and take down your message.

I hope you find this helpful.

[> Subject: It really disappoints me that you would be on here encouraging this board to be a publicity forum. Do you really want to encourage contestants to go on here and see firsthand how hateful some of the people in this organization can be? I'm not saying that some contestants don't already visit or post on this board, but come on. Why encourage that? Due to the hate that has been spewed on here in the past, and to keep this from becoming even more of an outlet for cyberbullying as it has as of late (Marge, I'm covering your ass here, you know that, right?), I would not encourage contestants to frequent this board.

[> [> Subject: No, I don't want to encourage contestants to come on here and see how hateful people can be. The purpose of the post was 1) to encourage DIRECTORS and VOLUNTEERS to share good news about their titleholders, and 2) to have GOOD NEWS replace HATEFUL POSTS on this board. As the Moderator, I can see IP addresses, so I know you're the same person that posted to Linda Dash that she has no place being on this board because she is a state staff member. Who made you God? Anyone is welcome to post, especially those who choose to sign their posts and be accountable for them. I'm not sure how your anonymous post is protecting "our girls", or anyone, except your own identity.

[> [> Subject: 1) I love Crystal and am excited for her upcoming wedding 2) I'm also excited for her upcoming competition in Miss Latina U.S. (more good news), but 3) Linda, it disappoints me that you are on this board as a MCO Staff member, signing your name, giving validation to this forum. The name of the forum is the "Unofficial" Miss California Forum, and it unfortunately makes this forum a little too official when you or someone in a similar position of power and authority comes on here and signs your name, or doesn't for that matter. I am not in that position of power or authority, nor am I in a representative capacity for this Organization. But I will stop at nothing to protect our girls. I find it very unsettling that any volunteer goes on here, and it could have been you or anyone else who I would call out signing their name and posting.

Sorry it had to be you that got called out this time, but you need to remember that you are an MCO officer.

[> [> [> Subject: I have been silent on this board for a few weeks now but I just HAVE to respond to this asinine post. What contributes to the hostile tone this board takes at times is the fact that it is 99% anonymous. Few people own what they say so they say whatever. I sign my name on posts I make because I decided a long time ago that if I am not willing to own what I say with my name, then I am not willing to say it. Putting my name on my own posts in no way legitimizes ANYTHING that anybody else says. Anybody who thinks it does is a fool. If you will truly "stop at nothing to protect our girls" then do not discourage people from owning their words; stop contributing to the culture of anonymity which encourages hostile sentiments about our girls to be expressed; and own your own words by signing your name to what you say. If you don't respect your own words enough to put your name to them, why should anybody else respect what you have to say?
