| [> Subject: I am happy for Jordan and I hope she wins Miss California next year. But the guru board is reporting that the Miss CA pageant does not allow aged-out contestants to compete at Sweetheart. What if a girl was the one in line and wanted to pay her own way. Bob doesn't have the right to tell the Sweetheart organizers how to run their show. Other states send aged-out contestants, so CA shouldn't stand in the way of a girl who is willing to pay her own way. | |

| [> [> Subject: Such a girl could file a lawsuit but it would get thrown out in a nanosecond. Without a contract, neither the Sweetheart pageant, the state pageants or contestants have any rights or obligations to participate. A contestant gets to go to sweetheart not because she has a right to go, rather it is through the graciousness of the Hoopeston Jaycees who create the opportunity for her to participate in such an event and by that of the state organization who allows her to compete or at least does not stand in her way if she chooses to go on her own. | |

| [> [> [> Subject: Tom, you know perfectly well that Bob forbids aged out runners-up to attend. That is not Sweetheart's rule, it is Bob's. Because Bob makes up rules about who can attend or not, it could be a problem if some aged-out contestant wants to pursue it. | |

| [> [> [> [> Subject: With no contract between Sweetheart & the state pageants, Sweetheart has no right to expect states to participate in their program & they have no obligation to invite any state to participate. States have no right to participate nor do they have an obligation to participate. Contestants have no obligation to participate & they have no right to either. Sweetheart can have all the rules they want, but legally, those rules are only guidelines to the state pageants. Contestants have signed no contract ensuring they will be allowed to compete for Sweetheart if eligible and the state pageants make no promises of that nature. One can not sue over a right that does not exist. California has been sending a contestant to Sweetheart every year since 1998. The criteria for choosing who will represent California has been in place for many years and Sweetheart has accepted every contestant we have sent them - including Jordan Krinke - which apparently was a good decision on everybody's part. | |

| [> Subject: Really, people, really? Jordan wins Sweetheart - something no California contestant has done ever. And within 5 minutes the discussion turns to potential lawsuits in the future. Is everyone in the Miss California Organization on antidepressants, and did you all forget to take yours today? What is this dark cloud that hangs over the so-called Golden State? Should it's nickname be changed to the Pewter State? the Iron State? the Charcoal Gray State? Ominous Dark Cloud State? | |

| [> Subject: I am on Cloud 9 about Jordan's win! She did such a beautiful job representing our state and really got attention from all over the country. Her fans in Hoopeston were not just us from CA, but people from other states and local people. It was so cool. I did hear about all of the drama on the National Message Board and asked Bob right away (imagine asking the boss). He has said that it is a "states rights" issue recognized that way by the National Sweetheart Group. Most states have the same policy and use this competition as a learning tool for a future contestant that placed in the top 5 (or further, if necessary). We are so happy and proud of Jordan and I am a bit sad this has created a little damper. This is a huge win for California and just even more exciting for our state as we head into Miss America week. Wishing the best to Crystal! #juju4Crystal is up next! :) | |

| [> [> Subject: Don't be bummed that crazies slither on here every so often! Who cares? We are all so happy! Sweetheart is not an MAO pageant so no one has a right to anything. One is INVITED and Bob has a right to invite whom he believes would benefit the most. Winning Sweetheart means nothing b/c there are no duties of the winner although the national recognition of Jordan’s talent will hopefully help her in her future endeavors. The honor of competing on a national level like Sweetheart helps a FUTURE contestant hone her skills for future MAO. Leah and Caylynn have both said the experience at Sweetheart really helped them for the win. Next year will be interesting to see Caylynn and Jordan go at it. Another great year at MCO! | |
