Subject: I am happy for Jordan and I hope she wins Miss California next year. But the guru board is reporting that the Miss CA pageant does not allow aged-out contestants to compete at Sweetheart. What if a girl was the one in line and wanted to pay her own way. Bob doesn't have the right to tell the Sweetheart organizers how to run their show. Other states send aged-out contestants, so CA shouldn't stand in the way of a girl who is willing to pay her own way.

Without a contract, neither the Sweetheart pageant, the state pageants or contestants have any rights or obligations to participate. A contestant gets to go to sweetheart not because she has a right to go, rather it is through the graciousness of the Hoopeston Jaycees who create the opportunity for her to participate in such an event and by that of the state organization who allows her to compete or at least does not stand in her way if she chooses to go on her own.

[> [> [> Subject: Tom, you know perfectly well that Bob forbids aged out runners-up to attend. That is not Sweetheart's rule, it is Bob's. Because Bob makes up rules about who can attend or not, it could be a problem if some aged-out contestant wants to pursue it.

[> [> [> [> Subject: With no contract between Sweetheart & the state pageants, Sweetheart has no right to expect states to participate in their program & they have no obligation to invite any state to participate. States have no right to participate nor do they have an obligation to participate. Contestants have no obligation to participate & they have no right to either. Sweetheart can have all the rules they want, but legally, those rules are only guidelines to the state pageants. Contestants have signed no contract ensuring they will be allowed to compete for Sweetheart if eligible and the state pageants make no promises of that nature. One can not sue over a right that does not exist. California has been sending a contestant to Sweetheart every year since 1998. The criteria for choosing who will represent California has been in place for many years and Sweetheart has accepted every contestant we have sent them - including Jordan Krinke - which apparently was a good decision on everybody's part.
