Subject: Please be fair.

Sadly fans tend to be goldfish-brained - from one result to the next, we lurch between euphoria and despair. Indeed that’s why we go to games; every game starts afresh and as, they say in financial ads, ‘past performance is no indication of future results’. However, in the end the longer term does count for something. As per the intro of MOTD last night “Fulham, this season, have been ‘more than the sum of their parts and Chelsea the opposite’. Yesterday the ‘parts’ counted. Money can be misspent - don’t get me started on ESR - but it does stand for something. Chelsea are a club that looks for wannabe galacticos and we are a team that hopes we can find journeymen that will perform above expectations. Past performances need to be recalled. Our thin squad is running on fumes. At the start of this season our ambition was ‘solid survival’ as expressed by the target to ‘be in the top half of the table’, which was not unreasonable and most fans understood - as opposed to ‘accepted’ - this. That is not to say that we should accept this for next season - our 4th back in the top flight. I agree that now we must build for bigger dreams. But as far as this season is concerned this squad has outperformed expectations and really should not be subjected to some of the visceral criticisms often found here after defeats.
