Subject: The point about the laboured build-up play is a really good one. I've never seen an english player who wants to play one touch, give-and-go stuff, running behind the defense onto through balls. Interestingly, we are at or near the bottom of the league in both through balls and offsides (an indicator of balls played in behind). He's looked best playing next to his arsenal boys (Iwobi and Nelson). No one else seems to play to his strengths. Work rate and stamina are other issues more on him though
In reply to: b+w g. 's message, "Same here. He has the attributes you describe in sentences 2-4. They aren't trivial. But more needed to make them really tell. That's partly down to him and partly to team context. He'll show up better if and when (as needs to happen not just for ESR's sake) the build-up play around him is less laboured." on Tuesday, May 13, 09:31:45pm
