  • Honestly can't speak for Coventry (although they did have a much longer top flight stint than us), but Bristol C are my closest league team, and their potential support is huge.   • The urban population of Coventry is 455000. Add the towns and villages around it and you can see their arguably greater potential.     • Tbh, whilst obviously 'city' rivals, i tend to find support of the Bristol Clubs is completely geographical, with surprisingly less overlap than you'd expect. Bath side of Bristol, and the weston corridor (ie, pretty much Southwards) = Bristol Rovers. North, and East of Bristol = Bristol City.       • But that geographical Rovers segment might be City fans if there was no rival. There's also the rugby element, I guess from Clifton and the leafier suburbs.       • Um, you're more local than me, but I've fans of both clubs as old friends and lived there too for nine months. Surely City have the Somerset catchment, with northwards more mixed. Stadium positions a partial clue.         • Can only go by my experience. My wifes family is all bath side, and they're all Rovers.             • City massively dominate S Bristol although there are more Gas than you might expect in postwar estates like Knowle West and Hartcliffe. Gas traditional heartlands are in the east. Eastville, Easton, St George, Whitehall, Kingswood, Warmley, Hanham, Mangotsfield etc. You'll find more City than Gas in N and NW Bristol these days. Plenty of City even in Horfield, Ashley Down, Bishopston etc. Much more City support than Gas in Somerset. • Amount of supporters is small part of equation, if you generate more revenue through higher ticket prices, non match day stadium revenue etc then that negates having more fans. Then factor in how match day revenue is a small % compared to commercial, prize money, tv etc why wouldn’t the previous 20 years have played out in the way you ask?
