• I've no doubt the club is seeking to extend and the time to sell is if a deal can't be reached. I think it's a mistake to rate Muniz and Raul as 1 or 2.   • Agreed both have been equally needed to-date. Problem is that Raul over the course of his career has never shown ability off the bench. Since 2014 he has had 111 sub appearances covering 2030 minutes and has scored just 7 goals, only one since moving to the Premier League in 2018. This means it does matter who starts and who finishes. Raul, to be effective, must start. But that hampers Muniz's growth. At some point the balance needs to shift towards the younger man.     • And I should say, I reckon this is probably a major sticking point in contract negotiations, which I have no doubt are under way. Muniz's time is now and as our own recent transfers show (think ESR, Andreas, Nelson) the Premier League is littered with 24-26 year old's with major talent lost to lack of opportunity. More than the money, I'd bet that he's looking for some assurances (probably not contractual) that he's likely to have a truly extended run as the primary starter.       • Ironically this moves us into the territory of imagining conversations that we're not party to. If Raul is not good coming off the bench the question is why not and can the coaches not work on that. I think Muniz potential is enormous and we'd be fools not to see him as the future.         • I'm with you on that last sentence and have been consistently in a group that also includes the imaginer of conversations. Said poster started the thread with goal quality, while I have myself referred intermittently to the *variety* of ways he scores (citing even Blackburn and Stoke away as a rookie). But Raul was harder to leave out last season than was anticipated, with productivity approaching his prime period at Wolves. Who foresaw? Great selection problem to have until it needs resolving.         • I think at this stage with Raul no amount of coaching will do it. The twilight of his career. He is what he is. The sheer volume of data is enough to suggest he will always be a player who needs to start to score. Beyond that I struggle to think of a single time when he's come off the bench and changed things in any way. Muniz is the future and we need to ride with him. Raul a superb back-up mentor for the transition. But we need a 3rd forward to change dynamics off the bench.
