• Indeed, but it's also the case that a youngster can't prove he's good until he's tried. Remember how wrong Alan Hansen was. You can win things with kids. We also have people consistently saying we need to bring in youth to the team. I bet if Josh King played for someone else and we bought him for 15m people would be creaming themselves, yet the impression is different when they're our own because the money speaks.   • But youngsters should only play if they get into the side through merit or opportunity- Sess and Fab earned the right to play due to their age group performances-Josh weakened the u 18s/21s when he played the key games at the end of the season. He is talented but his talent is not reflected in his performances.     • In the last 15 years we have only produced 1 player who would likely start in our current team- Harvey Elliott - and even he isn’t a given.       • Can't agree with you at all on the list of players. I have 7 players from the last 15 years - Elliot, Sess, Carvalho, O'Reilly, Roberts, Dembele and Stansfield - better than players we had in our 23-man squad last season. Perhaps not all of them would be in a "1st 11", but then I'm not suggesting we have a go with the likes of King, Tanton, Sess and De Fog as primary players.         • Only Elliott, Sess and Spence have made a mark in the EPL - I think Dembele would have done. Fab and O.Reilly still v unproven and, for all his talent, not sure MOR is an EPL player.           • All home grown EPL players start out as kids somewhere but the vast majority graduate from 5/6 academies and we have 3 of those in London.             • Blimey how far are you trying to move the goalposts here! I'm arguing for giving young players a chance at the literal fringes of the squad and have highlighted 9 players from our academy over the last 10 years who are better than certain players in our Premier League 23-man squad. Now you're criteria is someone playing for a "major international team." Don't think we're talking about the same thing at all!         • Oh and Djed Spence and Mika Biereth (who we'd all be falling over ourselves with excitement about). 9 players from the last 10 years. All better than some members of our 23-man squad. That excludes Eze who wasn't with us nearly long enough to count. It also excludes Elijah Adebayo who I reckon if on the bench would have done a job for us in those games where we faced 10 men in the box.           • Again I guess it is a matter of opinion- I don’t agree that most of the players you listed would be better than we had last season.             • I think the point I am trying to make is that throwing out random names from the age groups isn’t always the answer. I want eg King and Figs to make it - and if they do that would be great but 2 from the same cohort would be an outlier. That Figs got v good Canadian reviews is encouraging but having seen a fair bit of King and Taunton I would be v [pleasantly] surprised if they made it with us.             • Sess was in the squad already. O'Reilly and Elliot over Reed and Cairney I don't think is debatable. Any of Biereth, Dembele and Stansfield would easily replace Vini. Carvalho, Roberts or Stansfield over a perma-injured and on loan Nelson is obvious too. Spence over either Castagne or Tete. So 6 positions would have been improved. Besides all would have been very PSR-valuable if/when "eased out". The key is "if we were able to keep them". We won't ever keep anyone if we never give kids a chance.               • We gave Sess Dem Fab and HE games. We could have given Robert more minutes but Symons preferred Kavnagh. MOR can feel harsh treated in that SP preferred Arter altho could argue he was too similar in style t TC and not as good as TC then and possibly now. Sess, Dem Elliot and Fab chose to leave although they had game time. Biereth likeOsmand chose to leave at u 18 level.                 • I agree we used to. And as a result we were positioned to cash in on the likes of Sess and Carvalho. But since promotion, there seems to be little to no space. We need to show that there is an avenue to games otherwise there's no hope we keep players and we'll lose more at 18 or so. Not advocating 38 starts a year.                   • I don’t disagree but the kids need to convince the manager they are worthy starters now and justify a start over current first teamers. Both JK and Godo have had minutes and Figs may got some if he was fit. Stansfield would have done if he hadn’t engineered a move. Not sure who else is knocking on the door.
