Jade accepted the cup of java Erlic had poured her and lifted it to her lips, savoring the feel of the hot steam tickling and warming her nose.

“I do hope I’ll have the luxury of my lady’s company when we leave,” Erlic said.

Jade grinned at his formality. "But of course, darling. How could I bear to leave your side?" She winked and sipped her java.

She truly enjoyed Erlic's company and he was fascinating in many ways. She would enjoy puzzling him out as they explored the ruins, getting a feel for him. Later, perhaps, they could talk of things such as their likes and dislikes, hopes, plans and pasts. But there was no time now for such indulgence. She would have to make do with observation. So far what she had observed had been very satisfying.

She really had no idea why she had such a strong attraction to him. But she was never one to question her instincts much, since they'd served her very well for most of her life now. It just was, and that was good enough for now.

Soon they found themselves heading out. They made their way to the temple Ravin had indicated they would be exploring and the thief/leader got them inside without incident. She kept her eye out for any books, but there didn't appear to be any in this particular part of the temple.

Soon a trapdoor leading underground was located, causing Sheikh Daraba to exclaim, "I knew it! Hopefully it will lead us to catacombs housing the Peacock Throne!" Jade smirked slightly. She would like to see how they were going to lift a throne through that small opening!

They cautiously made their way down the stairs revealed by the trap door. One of the Jann managed to light the way, for which she was grateful. She wouldn't have to use any of her magical energy maintaining light and would have more available if it was needed for more urgent spells.

She glanced at the puppets. They were fascinating little things and she would have enjoyed examining them in more depth but right now she was more interested in the book she was supposed to be locating.

She turned to Erlic. "Why would there be shelves of toys hidden beneath a temple?" She said, puzzled.

Suddenly she caught movement out of the corner of her eye. Ravin stopped, looking slightly dazed. Isobel leaped between the man and the shelf of toys for some reason and then suddenly the puppets were moving as if alive... and attacking!

Jade gasped in surprise then quickly grabbed a charcoal charm from her pouch as the others struggled to fight the living toys. She crushed the charcoal in her hands and shouted, "Quickly... move against the back wall." She followed them and then turned, casting a fireball back toward where they had come, straight into the puppets as they moved jerkily toward them. She felt a strange stinging sensation in her leg, but ignored it as many of the wooden puppets were incinerated.

She looked down to see what had been stinging her leg and spotted a small clown puppet that had managed to attach itself to her leg. It was biting her! She kicked at it but couldn't dislodge it, so she pulled out her dagger and hacked the thing to pieces. "I really should take up whittling," she remarked dryly as she wiped some of the blood from her leg and turned to see how the others were faring.
