Sitting down at the table with the others gave Erlic time to pause, and reflect on the incidents that had occurred earlier. He suddenly realized that in his own way, he had acted the fool with Jade. Why couldn’t he simply come out, and tell the exotic beauty that he would miss her? Was that so incredibly difficult for someone such as himself? Obviously it was, and he now wished that he had handled matters differently.

When Jeremy suggested everyone leave for the hot springs, Erlic remained behind just a bit to enjoy the food, and java before he decided to join them. When he arrived at the springs he simply undressed, and sat in the luxurious waters. Of course simply sitting there brought back memories of Jade, and how she had teased him to excitement merely with her presence.

He closed his eyes, and thought back at the brief time he had spent with the mage. He realized that he had spoken very little with her, which led him to the question of why. Deep down he knew the answer; he didn’t want to get involved, deeply that is, with another person. His assassination background had always provided some form of danger to himself, and he preferred to keep it that way. If any of his past associates ever found out that he was enamored to a woman, they might try and harm her simply to get back at him. And so he had kept quiet with Jade, and he realized that it was probably wrong, as well as right at the same time.

Suddenly he heard the faint buzzing coming from his backpack, turned around, and reached for his mirror. He pressed the magical rune, and Dalo’s face came into view. As Erlic listened to the second attack that had been launched against the tavern, he breathed a sigh of relief when the beast master explained how they had managed to thwart the attack, and also drop the bodies in front of Tegol’s doorstep. Although this didn’t solve the problem, it did bring a smile to his face. He didn’t like the fact that people were still after Dalo, and trying to capture him alive to gather further information. Erlic realized that Dalo was a good man who took orders seriously, and to the letter, although not always in the quickest time frame. He was, however, extremely good, and Erlic valued that in the beast master.

During his conversation with Dalo, Erlic couldn’t help but get a peek of a young lady in the corner of the mirror. It seemed the beast master had found a new friend who was quite interested in who he was speaking to, especially when he heard the words, “He’s sure a scary old man” coming from the mirror. He almost laughed at the comment, but remained serious. Dalo continued to explain that Scat had somehow found information about one of Tegol’s main estates, and that possibly Eremis was being held there as prisoner. They were currently making plans to attack the place that evening in hopes of rescuing the young healer, and possibly even finding Tegol.

“Whatever you do,” Erlic stated quite seriously to Dalo. “Please be careful, and make sure you have enough men with you. We,” and Erlic expressed the emphasis on that particular word, since it meant not only him, but everyone at the specialist’s guild, as well as anyone at the tavern who was participating, “don’t want to get involved in something that there’s no way out.” Erlic, however, knew that Dalo realized this, and softened his tone a bit. “Just be cautious, and don’t take too many unnecessary risks.”

Eventually their conversation ended, and Erlic clicked off the mirror, replacing it in his backpack. He was glad that Dalo, along with whoever was helping him, was making headway in finding out as much information about Tegol, and his whereabouts. It would be a long road, but the guild master was sure that Dalo would find the means to accomplish his goal. Erlic wished that he could be with the guild master, working along side of him, but he also realized he needed to finish business in Neromba.

A smile came to his face as he thought about his past. Chirp, Dalo’s parrot that resided initially in the specialist’s headquarters, and now resided in the Medieval tavern, had the ability of remembering little catch phrases, one of which was Erlic’s a grumpy old bastard. It seems that the group in the specialist’s guild had referred to him in that manner, and the parrot simply picked it up, deciding to spew out that phrase whenever it deemed necessary. Well, it seemed he had gone from grumpy old bastard to Señor Frio as Isobel had so quaintly titled him. And now, to a scary old man, as the young lady whose name he didn’t know, referred to him as. Maybe he was changing. How, was another totally different question altogether.

His mentor had stated that change was inevitable in someone’s life, whether you accepted it or not. Erlic realized that he wasn’t the most outgoing person, but that didn’t trouble him at all. He had learned to accept himself, and the way others accepted, or didn’t accept him, easily enough. In the beginning it was a dark, and secret road he traveled, learning as much about society, thieving, killing as possible, until he made headway in the various thieves guilds that he had been a member of, as well as the numerous assassins guilds he was accepted into. He did his job as he was expected to, never conflicting with anyone. His reputation had been earned by skill, and good fortune, and that reputation allowed him to excel at his profession, being awarded various dangerous assignments, and succeeding with most of them.

Now he had been smitten by a woman, which was something foreign to him, he didn’t quite know what to make of the situation. Perhaps it was nothing, yet in the back of his mind, it remained quite obvious that it was something. Rather than pursuing the thought, he realized that he had important information to relate to the others.

He stood up in the water, and got everyone’s attention, including, and especially Marz. “I just wanted everyone to know that another attack was launched upon the Medieval Tavern.” It seemed he had captured everyone’s attention as they listened to what he had to say. “This time, however, the people managed to thwart the attack killing Tegol’s men with limited injuries, and no deaths to those of the tavern.”

It appeared that most of those here were pleased with the information. “Information has been gathered,” he proceeded to explain. “That they’ve located one of Tegol’s main estates. It is purported that Eremis is being held prisoner there, and that an offensive strike is currently being planned for this evening in the hopes of finding Eremis there, as well as Tegol. Let’s hope they accomplish their mission.”

Erlic sat back down in the water, relaxing even more, now that he was somewhat assured about the patrons of the tavern. Of course, Tegol being the man he was, wouldn’t sit back too long. Another attack was only inevitable. The only question remained was when. And then there was the impending attack back at Queen Kazabet’s castle, where supposedly Tegol’s men would be waiting for the group’s return. That was another incident that would have to be dealt with.

For now, Erlic managed to relax, and get whatever rest he could, realizing that eventually, they would have to go, and search out the branches of Midnight Hue.
