When Jeremy smeared horrid smelling ointment across the gashes on his back, Marz winced. The stuff felt like it was burning a hole through his skin. Jeremy laughed once he noticed his discomfort then explained that the burning sensation was temporary. "It's flame broiling all the germs that might be in the cuts," the youth told him.

Marz stared at Jeremy as he dug through his first aid kit for bandages and something he called tape. The youth was pretty cute when he didn't have orange stains from Cheetos coating his upper lip like a freaky moustache. After a few months of adventuring he'd develop some muscle tone, which would make him look much more appealing.

He tore his gaze away from Jeremy to face Tristan when he appeared before them. The slight fear he saw in his lover's eyes renewed his earlier guilt. As much as he enjoyed every aspect of sex, he felt somewhat shamed by his rough aggression with Tristan in the alcove. At the time, the dragon seemed to enjoy it, encouraging him to go out with whispered pleas. But now Tristan appeared disturbed and fearful of getting too close to him, and that made Marz feel like a raking rapist!

You initiated it, Tris! he wanted to scream. He remembered how his lover had grinded his body against his while kissing him with a fierce intensity he had never displayed before. Even after I slammed you against the wall you begged me not to stop. You wanted me to take you right then and there, and that's what I did!

He sighed deeply when Tristan turned away and rushed to join Rowan, who had discovered another passageway. Once Jeremy secured the bandages on his back, he pulled his tattered shirt on. Since Tristan was acting very standoffish, Marz avoided him, walking between the otherworldly youth and the genie.

When they reached the tower, the dragon sat across from him at the table rather than taking his customary place at his side. Tristan was doing an excellent job of making Marz feel like a piece of shit at the moment! The obsidian eyed ex-gang leader could not believe how badly Tristan's hand began to shake when their gazes locked. Seeing such a reaction from his lover hurt him quite deeply. Although he had always been extremely gentle in his lovemaking to Tristan, he knew that didn't matter any more. The dragon was fixated on what happened in the alcove. It had left him with a mental scar that wouldn't heal as quickly as the black eye he bore. The black eye that I unintentionally gave him!

Mutely, he watched Tristan run away from the table after spilling his java. Why the hell did I have to go and fall in love? Marz wondered. Being in love was proving to be a royal pain in the ass. Since losing his heart to Tristan he had done nothing but struggle and work his butt off, trying to make their relationship work. Where the hell was the fun in being in love? Sure, they shared a few happy times together, but some problem or another always came cropping up between them immediately afterwards, and such problems lasted much longer than the happy moments in their lives.

He glanced at Rowan; the urge to run off with the elf and just be crazy for a while nearly consuming him. Marz was no longer angry with the man for goading Tristan into drinking from the fountain. Rowan, like everyone else, had been influenced by the evil that had permeated the temple and shouldn't be held accountable for his actions.

Marz shifted his smoky gaze to Erlic and his group when they entered the kitchen. He thought about talking to his sensai about what happened in the alcove and asking his advice on how to fix things between him and Tristan, but shrugged the idea off. It would only frustrate him further if Erlic started talking to him in parables again.

"Hey!" Jeremy called out, drawing everyone's attention. "Why don’t we take some food and liquor down to that hot spring and have a party to celebrate finding the throne?"

Marz nodded, liking the idea immediately. A frown crossed his face a moment later when he thought of Tristan. The dragon would, no doubt, prefer staying cloistered in a room within the tower. Normally, he didn't mind being locked away with his lover while the others went off to have fun. But right now he couldn't bear the thought of being alone with Tristan and the fearful looks he kept tossing his way that made him feel like a sick, perverted bastard!

While his friends gathered the things they wanted to take to the hot springs, Marz made his way out into the hall. He glanced around, hoping to find a door ajar that would tell him what room the dragon might be in, but he had no such luck. Well, maybe it was best that he didn't talk to Tristan face to face since the dragon was very skittish around him right now. "I'm going to the hot springs with the others, Tris," he mentally called out. "I'll…..see you later, I guess." He spun on his heels and followed his friends from the tower to the spider temple they had cleared out earlier.

Upon reaching the underground spring, Marz stripped down to his skimpy underwear, and accepted a goblet of wine from Jeremy before making his way into the warm water. He laughed at Corum and Tia when they plopped down near a stalagmite and proceeded to feed all the animals that traveled with them, including Urchin.

He met Rowan's eyes briefly then stared at Erlic for a moment before taking a long drink from his wineglass. Once again he got the urge to talk to someone about his newest problem with Tristan, and once again he shrugged the idea off. Why burden them? They were adventurers not counselors, so he really didn't expect any of them to be able to help him anyway. He leaned back against the smooth stone and let the water relax his body while the wine began to calm his mind.
