Valhorek had slept lightly, awaking a few times during the course of the night to check in on his patients. It wasn’t that he wasn’t sure of his work; rather, he wanted to be meticulous about his main career, which was the healing of people. He had checked on Tia, Alakbar, Marz, Justin, and Isobel during the course of the night, using only his inner healing powers to gently scan their injuries. He felt assured they would all be fine.

Morning eventually came to the healer, and he found himself at the campfire where a number of the others had already woken. He poured himself a cup of the java, and simply relaxed. He wondered how Eremis had faired with the others during trying times, and if the youth had managed to increase his healing knowledge. Perhaps when he returned to Bizmar the older healer would ask the young man personally. Now it was time to eat breakfast, and be on their way.

Corum found that he was tired enough to fall asleep quickly. He was sorry that the party in the pool had to turn out as drastic as it did. Perhaps there would be another time for frolic, for he remembered Erlic’s words, and how some people might be after Alakbar by the time morning passed.

He got up, freshened up a bit, and made his way to the campfire. There he found Marz busy cooking breakfast. He didn’t know Marz could cook. “Hey dude,” Corum stated. “Make mine scrambled will ya?”

Before Marz had a chance to finish Justin showed up, and Corum was totally in awe. The man actually smelled…….normal. Those women must have done a really thorough job cleaning the stink out of him. Of course, it probably wouldn’t last too long knowing how the merc never bothered to clean up. Oh well, he’d have to simply live with it by staying as far away from the guy as possible.

He overheard Tia’s comment about hoping she wouldn’t be cumbersome to the group. “Don’t worry, Tia,” Corum explained. “Me and Yorik will watch over you in case any nasties decide to come along.” Suddenly, Barry appeared next to him. “Oh yeah, Barry too will watch over you. No problem, we got you covered.”

Corum sat down and enjoyed the breakfast. Somehow he figured it was going to be a very long day.

Being an assassin one had to learn how to sleep lightly, and still get the rest needed to survive the next day. Erlic had learned these lessons well while still a child. His mentor had shown him the special way one entered the meditation format allowing he or she to rest, and yet be on guard for any disturbances, all at the same time.

It wasn’t necessary for Erlic to open his eyes when he heard the sound of footprints entering the cave. He realized it was Valhorek checking up on Isobel, and Alakbar. The assassin was thankful for Val’s services as opposed to Eremis’. Not that the younger healer wasn’t talented, for he was sure Eremis was, but it was the experience, and the lack of fear in battle the youth lacked, and for this reason alone Erlic had decided to make the switch. Considering the events of the past few days he was glad to have made that decision.

Eventually the amount of rest he needed had come, and Erlic opened his eyes to a new day. Isobel was still asleep next to him, and he allowed her the rest. If she didn’t awaken soon he would see to it that she did.

When he exited the cave, Ravin was there to meet him, inquiring on a quick lesson on how to throw shurikens. The assassin simply smiled at his friend. “I’ll show you the correct procedure,” Erlic began. “But don’t rely on it too much until you’ve mastered the throwing technique.”

He instructed his friend to carefully pull out the sharp, and deadly throwing weapons. The guild master then instructed Ravin on the positioning of the index, and second finger to throw the weapon, thus avoiding the slicing of any skin. Erlic further instructed that the weapon could be thrown side arm, underhand, or overhand. The main throw was the side arm throw, which had gained popularity in the East. Beside the two-finger method of holding, Erlic also instructed Ravin on how to hold it with thumb, and index finger as well, explaining that this method was the harder of the two to achieve.

He watched carefully, and with an approving eye, as Ravin followed his instructions to the letter. When it came to weapons, Ravin was indeed a master of them, especially when it came to learning the in’s, and out’s of the device, and Erlic knew that the man would be throwing these weapons in no time. How good the accuracy was going to be was another story totally, but in due time, Ravin would master the shurikens.

When the lesson was over, they both joined the others at the campsite. Erlic inquired to Tia’s eyesight, as well as Marz’s bandaged ribs. He didn’t think anything of the impediment; there were enough people to handle their friends, while he concentrated his efforts on the eventuality of the assassin’s attack. It was only inevitable.
