Erlic, and Isobel scouted out the sky for any signs of the giant vultures. It was obvious that the group had done a number on them, and managed to injure or kill many of them. Even now as Erlic looked down at the ground, he could see the other vultures feasting on their comrades, delighting on tearing them apart just to get a meal.

He turned and looked at Isobel’s back, noting the tear in her shoulder, which was still bleeding. “You did a good job Isobel,” Erlic stated. He quickly pulled out a bandage of sorts, and started applying pressure to her wound. Although she winced at the first touch, he simply insured her that he was trying to stop her bleeding. “Guide the roc to the ground, and Valhorek can tend to that wound as soon as we land.”

Isobel followed the assassin’s instructions, and within no time they had landed. Erlic jumped off the roc first, and prevented Isobel from descending herself. He picked her up, and gently placed her on her own two feet. “Let’s get you over to the healer.”

Erlic continued to keep pressure on the wound until they arrived to join the others. He helped Isobel sit down, while he continued to look around to make sure none of the other vultures, that were nearby didn’t try to attack again.

Valhorek was enjoying the ride on the roc until he heard Erlic’s cry of warning. He looked around, and spotted the giant vultures looming in the distance. He looked down at the make shift saddles the rocs wore to insure the comfort of their rider, something the queen must have thought about, and immediately spotted some straps that secured the so-called saddle to the creature. Val quickly secured his legs inside the straps, and when he felt secure, withdrew his long two-handed sword.

Fighting without have anything to grab onto would have been difficult, but would have been doubly so while wielding a two-handed sword. He tested out the strength of the straps, and prepared himself for battle as the creatures came nearer to the rock he, and Sarra were riding.

As one of the vultures tried to claw them down, Val was surprised that he could actually stand within the straps, and swing his sword, as it arced across flesh, and bones of the creature. Within minutes it had started to tumble in a downward spiral.

The healer continued to look around him, as the vultures tried other avenues of attack. Again, he managed to hit, parry, or injure the giant creatures as they tried to attack him, and his partner. After several attempts at trying to tear apart the roc, along with several giant vultures going down to their death, the other birds decided to avoid the healer. He had wreaked enough havoc on them, and they were happy to simply prey on their own deceased brethren.

Valhorek noticed that the remainder of the group, at least those that had finished fighting, were slowly making their way toward the land below him. After guiding the creature to join the rest of the group, Val released his legs from the harness, and jumped down to the ground. He immediately grabbed his medical kit in case anyone had been injured.

Everybody with the exception of Erlic, and Isobel had landed on the ground. By now they were all huddled together as a group, and Valhorek quickly rushed over to see what aid he could give. Although Tristan had a very large gash to his side, Marz seemed to look the worse out of all of them. Isobel, who had just joined them, had a tear in her shoulder, and Barry the strange skull, was being attended to by Tia.

Val kneeled next to Tristan. “I know I can’t give you any herbs, so I suggest you bite on this,” the healer stated giving Tristan a rag to bite down on. Fortunately the healer was wise enough to bring extra water to wash off the wounds. Under normal circumstances, a creek or riverbed could always be found, but here in the dessert there were no such options.

The healer quickly soaked a rag, and started to wash Tristan’s injury. The gash in his side was quite deep, but fortunately no damage had been extended to his vital organs. Once the gash was cleaned, Valhorek applied the salve to hopefully numb the area he was about to work on. Slowly, and methodically, he stitched up the deep gash Tristan had suffered with tiny sutures so they wouldn’t leave a scar. When he finished, he applied a salve to the wound, and wrapped it in clean bandages. He then ordered the dragon to remain where he was.

Valhorek rushed over to where Marz was cleaning his injuries, and after getting a mouthful from the youth, simply glared at him, and told him to be quiet. It was difficult to decide where to start off with Marz, for he had suffered multiple injuries, and Val was surprised that the youth was still conscious. The healer inspected the gash in his arm from the vulture’s beak, and with his mental prowess found it to be quite infected. He sprinkled a fine white powder in the wound watching as it worked. Within minutes it had gone from a white powder, to a fizzling powder, until it simply vanished. Now Val was sure that there was no infection, however the youth had suffered a torn ligament, which would hamper his fighting for a short while. The healer knew of Marz’s quick recuperating powers, and quickly set about the task of mentally suturing the torn ligament. In just a few moments the job was done, and he quickly set about stitching the area around the injury. Again, he applied the salve to numb the area, and quickly stitched it up, applying the salve to prevent infection, and wrapping it with clean bandages. Valhorek did the same for the shoulder claw marks, and the neck claw marks. Some were deeper than others, but fortunately there hadn’t been enough damage to tear any other ligaments. Some had been slightly torn, but those would heal on their own. Eventually he finished with Marz, whose upper body seemed to look like that of a mummy with all the bandages wrapped around him. Val gave him a mixture of water, and herbs, and stood there while watching the youth actually drink the liquid down. The healer was aware of how awful his herbs tasted, but it was for the good of each patient. With Marz, he was also aware of how many times the youth simply never bothered to drink the patients. Satisfied, he finally left Marz to simply rest.

Valhorek approached Isobel, and carefully examined her shoulder. He gently pulled the fabric away from the skin, and noted the deep gash within her shoulder. Fortunately the injury wasn’t that grave, but the talon had infected the area, as well as tear part of the tendon in her arm. He applied the white powder to the affected area, and waited for it to do its work. When finished, the healer used his psychic healing abilities to mentally suture up her tendon. He then proceeded to stitch her wound closed, applying the antiseptic salve before wrapping the wound in clean bandages. He handed Isobel some water mixed with the herbs to aid in the healing process.

After standing he let out a long breath before approaching Tia, and Barry. The skull was not alive, nor was it dead, but somewhere in between. He didn’t know if he could actually be of any help. “Let me take a look at that Tia,” he interjected. Not sure as to how to proceed, he used his psychic mental powers to inspect the skull itself. From what he could interpret, a good washing of the eye was the only thing he could do to help stop any infection. He didn’t think the skull would have any adverse reactions to herbs, so he applied a bit of bistort, flax weed, rosemary, and daffodil. Under normal conditions these herbs simply helped sterilize wounds, and aided in the prevention of infection.

When he was finished, Barry almost looked like a new man, although the eyes were a bit swollen. It was the best the healer could do with such an unusual patient.

Valhorek looked around, and finally realized that his work was finished. He finally re-joined the others, pulled out a flask of whiskey, and took a long drink from it.
