Hi there everybody,
I'm checking the Weather Channel's home page for South Orange NJ's weather predictions and it's saying scattered storms for Sat and cloudy for Sun....So...who knows?
We'll be there, but probably will not be giving carraige rides because of muddy conditions. Also the jousts will be modified to keep the horses safe.
Drive safely and hope to see you there!

Well, The Renaissance continues...
Eric and John pulled into the NJ Kingdom site on Friday afternoon to find that the area set aside for the joust was about 20 feet wide by 100 feet long...great size for a turnout, but a little small for a joust. Paul was running around Philadelphia getting needed items for the weekend and didn't get to NJ until midnight. So early on Saturday morning found us enlarging the joust area and we finished just as it started raining. The Faire decided to delay opening for a couple of hours to see if it would let up...so we got the horses ready anyway to give them some practice in the SMALL arena.
When they did open the gates 7 paying customers came in so we gave them a rain day version of the show and the faire closed.
Sunday's weather was much better and we even saw the sun a few times. Both shows went very well, including a wedding proposal before the second show. (none of us were the asker or askee and she said yes). The horses did great, and we're very happy with their progress.
Unfortunately, on the trip home one of the company trucks developed electrical problems which left John and Eric sitting at a NJ rest area for 8 hours while Paul drove one horse trailer home and came back to deliver parts and beer. We got the truck rolling and got everyone home...was just frustrating!
Some thoughts...
I haven't been to the NJ faire since they moved from the old site and although it was in a very odd location, it is a shame that they were forced to move. I was glad to see that the enthusiastic people are still there. It definitely amazes me that this faire accomplishes so much with volunteers, and constantly comes up with fresh ideas that are executed with fire and energy.
Also, the response and welcome we got from cast and patrons was outstanding. We enjoyed performing and had a lot of fun with the shows.
The site however, is a challenge. They cannot begin to build or modify the landscape, so this makes for a very temporary feel to the faire and causes some problems. Also the vendors were not very balanced. For the size of the faire and the number of vendors, there should be one maybe two of each type of vendor.

Here's a topic for discussion. Think of your favorite Ren Faire, then think of the thing or things that make it less than perfect. What are they and what would you do to change them and make your favorite Faire even better?
For example, my favorite Faire is still the one I consider home...The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire. There are a number of things that have gotten better over the years, but still a few nagging problems remain.
For one, Anachronisms. There are far fewer and we seem to be moving farther away from the cheap easy laugh (seeing a Ren Character in sunglasses on stage) and moving back towards the intellectual humor. I'd address this by cracking down on offenders, and giving my actors better training in taking modern items and converting them into Ren contexts.
For second, FANTASY CHREATURES IN A RENAISSANCE SETTING!!!! ACK! If you want a medieval fantasy faire... great, if you want a renaissance faire...great. DON'T MIX THE TWO! I'd address this by getting rid of the trolls, pixies, and fairies once and for all!
OK, your turn!

Hey all,
Sorry, been away from my home computer and phone line this month while we were in Fremont, Ohio. So here I sit at a public library computer, jotting off this quick update.
The show ended with a bloodbath and a bang. Bloodbath on Saturday with everybody dieing except Eric, and a Bang on Sunday with a MEGA storm blowing in 5 minutes before final joust. Oh well.
Overall the show went well, but a dissapointing gate. The animals are all back in Lancaster as of last night and John and I are back out in Ohio getting the RV's today. Once I am settled back in Lancaster with my own computer back I'll give the webpage and update.
We have about a week to get ready for the first kid's day at PA then another week till the official opening of PA...HOOOORAY!
We look forward to seeing everyone there, and will miss our new friends and family here in Ohio.
Smiles everyone!

Now, we all know eric is still sexy, but what about John? In my recent years i've never looked at John as "hot" or "sexy" Though he didn't do much, he still changed his look too. Hes clean shaved and got a nice buzz. I think now, john is sexy, and indeed very attractive. I like the new look for both eric and john. And even better the new horses make them look even better, riding on huge masses of horses, making them look *twink in eye* beefy buff :-)

For a time there came a Great Knight to a village near mine. Called Enchanted Glen. A strong and powerful Knight he was. So powerful that he changed my little village forever. Who was this Noble Knight but a dream. Where was his Kingdom, where did he come from? Did the Great Wizard bring him or was he but I dream I can not wake up from? No matter, I am changed still the same. Was it written on a scroll I may never see or a scroll I am yet to see? The days to be are only seen by the Great Wizard and the story is untold. Therefore for this day I seek only to learn and be the better for it. Goodday

Once upon a time, in a land far away called the Enchanted Glen, came the Impact Production for their first year, and they charmed everyone! With witt and smiles, skilled jousting and horsemanship they worked their magic. What a wonderful time of entertainment and fellowship. Sad to see them go, excited to know they return next year! Special "thank you" to Sir Thomas, who made my season full of shock voodoo, (and I needed it in large doses) Your words will always be remembered my Beloved Knight. May the road always rise up to meet you.

I know this is quite irrelavent to your site but Ohio site is closed or unavailable. So anyhow, there was a vendor out back in the woods who sold leather corsets, heavy woking type things rather than vanity pieces. does anyone happen to remeber or know a website to those folks? I don't have a name either I just remeber seeing them and wanted to check into it further. Thanks for any input and again appoligize for non-Impact type message.

I have and internet connection...I have and internet connection...I have and internet connection...
FINALLY! We got the phone line hooked up at the booth and now I can get the website updated...and check in with all of you.
So the trip back from Ohio was uneventful and long....we miss all you guys out there! We look forward to seeing those that are comming out soon!
As for PA, as most of you heard, opening day was a waste! 3 trees were struck by lightning at about noon. One was stripped of bark in a really cool spiral pattern down the trunk....shards flew 30 - 40 yards away and the bow maker, took a large piece and will be making a bow out of it. Now that's cool!
The shows are progressing well, the horses are having a bit of a hard time adjusting to the largest crowds they've ever seen. A couple of thousand people roaring for blood, gets Vada and Joy REALLY up! :)Unfortunately, Vada was a little too up for the first show on Sunday and took John for a bit of a ride. For those of you who saw it, you witnessed a rare once in a life time event. John is doing ok and should be in the show next week! :)
We are really happy to be back at our home show and have started working on our first independent production Bloodfest 2003, Tournament of the Helm. So it's going to be a busy Fall....
Updates should be more regular now....weekly at least. So see you all soon!
Cheers,
Paul

Paul thank you so much for asking about us. I hope you know we would never come to PA and not hunt you guys down first thing. Ha Ha Why else would we drive 8 hours?

Shirley's husband Mike (Master of the Wenches) lost his father the Sunday before we were scheduled to leave. Shirley and I were the only ones coming. The other Wenches backed out for various reasons. Naturally, I cancelled my vacation and the reservations at the Hampton Inn.

Shirley is going to Texas with her Mother-in-law to help settle the estate, etc. We are still planning on coming to PA, we just don't know when. If we don't make it for the Ren Fest, we are planning for the Bloodfest 2003 Show. It would be awesome to see your first independant show.

I would like to say that we have been to the Michigan & Ohio Ren Fests and Stacey is "right on" about you guys being the best. You have spoiled us so much that I have not sat through an entire joust since you guys left.

Please tell that Sexy Bald Guy that I said good day. See you soon.

Good Day to you all!! Just a quick note to let you know we are still planning on coming out to visit you guys the last weekend of Sept. At least that's the plan. Not sure if we are staying that extra day or not Paul, Dan is concerned about his (lack) of vacation days left. (But I've never been to Philadelphia and I vote to stay) Have to talk some more. It looks like Julie will also be coming along with us, hopefully anyhow. Will probably try to give you a call, we are wondering about campgounds in the area? Looking forward to seeing you, we all had a blast this past summer. Nikki really misses you and says to tell everyone hi. I'm suprised she didn't try to stow away with you when you left!

See you soon

I had seen an article about PARF in some local paper a friend gave me back on opening day of PARF that mentioned Impact and had a picture of John with it. It now seems that the article has now found its way onto CNN.com:

It's a nice pic of John and Vada. Too bad they spelled Lukas wrong in the caption, though.

Hey Paul,

Just thought I'd let you know we made it back to Ohio, Dan let me drive a bit longer and the trip took 6 1/2 hours instead of 7. Bet I could get it down to 6 or less if I drove the whole way.. Anyhow, we are wondering how Jason is doing? And hoping everyones spirits are higher than they were when we left. Once again we all thank you guys from the bottom of our hearts for everything, we had a great time. Wish we were closer so we could come a little more often, but I am glad we at least had the chance to get there once. It be a wondrous faire!! deservest of more than one weekend visit. We shalt keep in touch, and may Lady Fortune smile upon thee the remaining weekends!

Jousting and knights and chivalry and that whole deal have been my "thing" since I was a little kid. When I go to a ren faire, the joust is the one show I will NEVER miss. Over the last 2 faire seasons, I've seen 39 shows (and counting) performed by Impact Productions at 4 different faires. You know I love you guys and think you're the best, I really do, but, up until this past weekend, I don't think I really, truly appreciated the talent and skill you guys have. I made the trek up to NYRF on Saturday to see Steve K. from Stockwood ren faire (who asked me to tell you guys he says "hi", by the way) and a few other people I know perform there. Of course, I had to see the joust. By the time it was over, I wasn't sure whether I wanted to strangle Emo and John when I see them at the opening of PARF for ruining me for all other joust teams out there, or give them another cooler full of Labatt Blue for founding the best joust team out there. I had heard that the jousters out at the Great Lakes Medieval Faire in OH and the Sterling Ren Faire in upstate NY pretty much stunk from some people I know from PARF who've been spoiled by Impact, but I held out hope that my experience at NYRF would be better. No such luck. It was like expecting to see a major league team play live at a stadium but watching a minor league team on tv instead. I'm not saying they weren't good, the crowd seemed to like the show. But it just was not anywhere near good enough for me. Once you've seen the best, the rest just won't do, and I've seen the best 39 times....and plan to see them a whole lot more.
Huzzah to the knights of Impact Productions - you guys really do rock!!!

What does everyone think of all the injeries, and the postponement of The independent gig? My personal veiw is i am glad they decided to hold off... it's better that they have more time to actually practice, and prep for it. :-) Besides Paul Adams (gimpy!) has had the broken leg and would have had NO time to get ready for it himself.
