Subject: A possibility for the fuutre of talk radio?

Now I know full well that this is from a biased source, so to a degree it might just be wishful thinking on their part, but business is business, and if Clear Channel can see a way to profit from this... they will do it.

[> All liberal, all the time? It just might work. This part of the article had me laughing though: "At the same time, right-wing hosts are fading." Oh, really? Explain Savage gaining 8 million listeners in 3 years, or Hannity getting 10 million within 1 year. That ain't "fading," no matter what the meaning of the word "is" is. -- "Vince From Villanova" (Quick! Give James Carville a mic!), 09:44:13 05/22/03 Thu

[> [> It's fading because people like me (an avid talk radio fan for 15 years) are starting to bail out (I now have days that I don't turn it on at all) - no one wants to listen to just one side - talk radio is now beyond stale, it's the same thing over and over and over and over and over and over again. This could bring it to life with one station playing off of the other. -- richiep, 08:40:28 05/23/03 Fri

[> [> [> The ratings numbers nationwide disagree with both you and the Commondreams.org article. Conservative talk radio is not in trouble. But we both agree that an all-liberal network, if done right, could help talk-radio in general. As much as I dislike CC as a company, I look forward to seeing what they can do with this. -- "Vince From Villanova" (Has CC called Alan Colmes yet?), 03:05:01 05/24/03 Sat

[> I still wanna jnow how they think they can start a network when they can't find even one entertaining liberal talk host yet? (We'll leave Colmes out of it, since he's really a moderate, no?) -- Scott Tilde, 18:29:09 05/22/03 Thu

[> [> How about Jim Phillips in Orlando, or Randi Rhodes in West Palm Beach? Both work for Clear Channel-owned stations. And there are other local liberal hosts across the country that do well; I'll bet at least some of them work on Clear Channel stations. CC also seems to like nudging music DJs into experimenting in talk, so watch for that too. Only time will tell if they can do it right, but it's do-able. -- "Vince From Villanova" (Bill Maher? [> [> [> I haven't heard of Phillips, but I've read Randi's web material, and she is one bitter pill. Bitter doesn't attract an audience which is why most libs are shut out. Libs need to associate some self-confidence and humor with their ideology and then go for it. Fame will follow. -- Scott Tilde, 01:09:58 05/27/03 Tue

[> [> [> [> BIG difference between web postings and on-air schtick. Nobody writes exactly the way they talk, and vice-versa. I can assure you, on the rare moments I'm far enough south to hear her, I can't help but laugh, even as she's offending every conservative/libertarian thought in my brain. But hey, I trumpeted Glenn Beck as "funny" before he debuted in Philly, so maybe I shouldn't damn her with great praise, so to speak. ;) -- "Vince From Villanova" (Funny ha-ha, or funny strange?), 01:40:19 05/29/03 Thu
