Subject: D & M on the ropes at 'YSP

D & M are just now whining that their ratings fell from a 3.6 to a 2.3 share. Tim S. at WYSP is rumored to be thinking of canning them come September.

To this I say, "Good Riddance"! I can't get WPHT at work in Salem, so I listen to D & M. They are mediocre at best. A few times their show makes me "chuckle". Few times is makes me laugh, and NEVER does it make me crack up.

Once out of work, it is Smerconish and Jeff K. to take me home.

My dream would be for 'YSP to dump D & M and offer O & A that slot. I believe a major reason why D & M are failing in Philly is because so many O & A fans still exist and feel the D n M show is inferior to O n A.

I will now sit back and wait for the thrashing I am going to receive.

[> Bob, you are right on ther mark about Don and Mike. Nasty, self-serving, no respect for their audience. They are middle-aged fat guys who want to see as many naked women and guys eating cow crap as possible. No concept of "promoting outward" to reach their audience. Very sad radio. O&A? Think they were a somewhat funnier version of D&M. Thanks to them we all know where that invisible "line" is. I'm off to church now. -- Pseudonyms Uck...but they beat the Hell out of libel suits!, 16:31:55 04/22/03 Tue

[> Who would thrash you for saying that??? I have said in this forum how bad Glenn Beck and Dom G are so I will point that out from time to time. I just assumed everyone knew that Don and Mike were so HORRIBLE that it just wasn't up for debate. I have yet to meet a person anywhere that actually thought they were funny even a little. -- Tector Gorch, 17:19:16 04/22/03 Tue

[> What drove me away -- John, 15:51:06 04/24/03 Thu

A few things drove me away from D&M a while ago, even as I continue to listen to Stern, and would probably listen at O&A should they ever return. They are:
1)Their abrupt change from basically good natured jokesters to super edgy, obnoxious,"shock jocks"immediately after O&A left the air.It was kind of like when Vanilla Ice went "gangster rap".
2)A seeming absence of actual comedic talent. These guys, like Stern and O&A are basically smart-ass disc jockeys, not actual comedians or comedy writers they need someone on and/or off the air to provide them with true comic material and on air genuine comedy such as provided by Stern's Artie Lang/Fred Norris(and formerly Jackie Martling) and O&A's Jim Norton. True comedic presence is much too infrequent on the D&M show.
3)If you're not allowed to curse, then don't.using the first letter in place of a curse word is ok once in a while, but D&M do it so often it sounds really weak.O&A were guilty of this as well, but this tended to be balanced out by the rest of the package.

[> [> D&M are exactly the guys I though O&A were gonna be before I gave them listen. I thought O&A was just going to be one of those always unfunny radio teams that you hear all over the country, but I was wrong - O&A were TRULY FUNNY...particularly Anthony and when Norton was on. Something Stern isn't anymore and D&M never ever were. I tried to give D&M a shot but they just are NOT FUNNY at all. -- Tector Gorch, 17:34:41 04/24/03 Thu

[> [> [> All I hear when I tune in D&M is two guys trying to - gasp - entertain! Well, we can't have that, now can we? Don't they realize that talk radio is about being a self-important blowhard, ranting endlessly about unimportant issues, and quoting verbaitum from the GOP Party Platform? [> DON and MIKE -- Mike, 16:10:08 05/29/03 Thu

I really think you guy's DON'T get it they have been doing the same show for 20 year's and like anything else at any job you slip a little.
Do i think O n A where better YES i do but you have to remeber that O n A where only together for i beleave 4-5 years.
They are younger then don and mike and stern.
My point is that O n A blue calor guy's from boston or new york and they HAD SOMETHING TO PROVE.AND THAT IS WHAT GOT THEM FIRED TWICE.
Stern has done it,and if they do come back and give us the fans what howard stern gave us in the mid 80's into the 90'sthat would be great.
