Subject: In a column a few weeks ago, Smerconish called Saddam Hussein "a bad man." If you want to be this so-called hard-hitting journalist-star-in-the-making, at least spend a few bucks on a thesaurus. If "a bad man" is the best description you can come up with, I don't think Dexter or Lopez have to worry about their reputations being challenged.
In reply to: A. Fan 's message, "Steve Lopez has not been a columnist here for years and your memory may be faded. Mike is doing great work in the Daily News- in today's column he breaks it up into 3 bite-size topics. That's innovative; who needs those long think pieces. The Daily News better clear out the deadwood & give Mike more frequency & a higher profile. Otherwise, he might be the next star (like Dexter & Lopez) to leave and go national." on 11:33:22 01/16/03 Thu
