Subject: Shilling for "Philadelphia Magazine"

I had a hard time believing what I heard on the M Smerconish show today. He is now an official sponsor of "Philadelphia Magazine", a hoity toity publication edited by one of the shallowest lightweights to have ever befouled the Delaware Valley......Larry Platt.

M informs us to read Platt's story about Allen Iverson's rough formative years. I for one will pass on that story and most anything else that has anything to do with Larry Platt.

I thought M was carefully crafting his image as the savior of "his" people, row-house Philadelphians (not too many left at this point) and the suburbanites who used to be Philadelphians. I guess M is expanding his base. Shilling for "Philadelphia Magazine" is very base. I wish him the best of luck.

Philly mag has profiled Mike very positively over the years. I know of at least two of their Top 100 Most Powerful Lists he's made, in addition to the nice expose done on him last year. Logically, why wouldn't he return the favor? DUH! Again, must we endure these lame attacks on a proven professional who's been a success in no less than three entirely different venues? (Politics, law, and broadcasting)? I'm not an MAS fan. I don't listen to him. But but one must acknowledge these accomplishments. When you are asked to be a campaign manager for a mayoral candidate, or to be a regular poltical pundit on a major cable network, or to accompany a US Senator to Cuba to meet Fidel Castro, then you can say something, OK?

If you hate radio so much, why do you waste your time telling us how much you hate it? And what does somebody being a professional have to do with whether or not he is worthy of criticism? As I said before, you are a fool, and now you are becoming a pest.

[> [> [> I love radio ! But there are other types of radio besides commercial b'cast, FYI. more -- the Formal Observer, 15:46:37 11/06/02 Wed

I own 3 Bose Waves, a CC Crane radio, and old Johnson 323 SSB 11 meter rig to "shoot skip" when the conditions are right, an old Yaesu FRG-7 shortwave receiver hooked up to a multi-band dipole I built myself. I still own the same Heathkit AM/FM tuner I built in high school. I used to have a Novice class amateur operator's ticket. Does that qualify as loving radio? It's the listeners that I detest who don't grasp simple concepts, such as that broadcast commercial radio is first and always a for-profit business and not an altruistic social entitlement.
