Subject: I don't totally disagree but it you look at when BC and G'town elevated their stature (early, mid-80's), it coincides w/ their athletic success. IMHO, their athletic success was an important catalyst.
In reply to: Mojofunk'75 's message, "Ramvet deserves better. No one on this board considers athletics inconsequential with institutional advancement , but the lockstep argument that investing heavily in athletics will make a significant dent in raising our reputational profile is debatable at best. Aside from GU basketball and its "impressive" ex-players ("The Answer" is a typical, articulate GU grad, right?), what national athletic success have they garnered? The terribly simplistic notion that sports alone put Georgetown, BC, and others gets far too much substantiation on this board." on Fri April 15, 2005 12:42:25
