Whenever I received solicitations (whether from Fordham or other institutions) that included a paragraph or sentence that giving a minimal sum like $5-$10 boosts the school's rating in whatever survey, I've felt that they were, in some small way, trying to game the system. I know that's not what they're trying to do, but it in my mind it definitely distracts from the purpose of giving: to financially support an institution important to the donor. Let me add that to me such a solicitation doesn't really diminish my respect for the institution, but causes me to read those surveys in question with more of a jaundiced eye.
