Subject: Quotes from DW

Some interesting quotes from DW in the interview by Tom DeCataldo in the new issue of The Ram(nice job by DeCataldo by the way):

On if he's pleased with the improvements in the team: DW - "We've definitely got some things to be excited about, but we still have along way to go."

Question: You mentioned after the George Washington game that you would eventually like to play at their pace. With the additions of Chris Bethel and Devon Everson and the recovery of Dominick Osei, do you think this enables you to finally play at the tempo you have wanted?

DW: "We want to get to that pace. There is going to be a whole lot of competition but it's going to be healthy for our team and it will make guys better. For the first time, we will have close to a full scholarship roster and we'll be practicing against A-10 players. No offense to our guys, but for the past few years we had been practicing against walk-ons and now we should get a chance to improve".

Question: Where do you see Bethel fitting into the rotation?

DW: "I never like to limit what players can do. He can pretty much play anything other than the point guard or center positions and I expect him to do just that."

Question: Are you more concerned with recruiting a point guard who can score or trying to improve Kevin Anderson's perimeter game?

DW: "We want Kevin to improve. We want him to have the confidence he had in the St. Bonaventure game(Kevin hit two 3 pointers in the first half vs. the Bonnies). Kevin is very capable of making shots and if he works hard we know that if teams continue to leave him open late in the game he will bury teams. He can be as great a shooter as he wants."

On next season's schedule: DW - "Hopefully we can get a balanced schedule. Unfortunately, we will be playing more games on the road next year and therefore have a tougher schedule. We are also trying to play some tougher teams so we can be in a good position for post-season play."

Question: Any specific teams?
DW - "We want to play St. John's but for some reason they don't want to play us. That is good and bad because it shows that we have gotten better but at the same time we don't get the game. We are going to try to play Villanova again and we'd like to get two other big name teams."

Question: There have been grumblings that once you get this program to improve, you will eventually jump ship to your alma mater, North Carolina State. How big of a goal is that for you?

DW: "It's not a big goal at all. Everyone kind of assumes that because of my popularity with what I did there, that I want to go there as soon as I can - but that is not a goal of mine. I didn't know I would end up at Wagner, or Georgia Tech, or Fordham. My ultimate goal is to have a program that wins a national championship. That usually means being at a high level program but that may be here. Until then, I want to have a solid program and I want my teams to have high graduation rates."
