I have a question.. why two frosh skippers? Doesn't the youth and inexperience only hurt us here or are you building something big for the future? Also how do you recruit these young ladies? J 92, thanks for your interest. They are the only two female skippers available. After representing Fordham well for 3 1/2 seasons, our senior skipper has taken a hiatus from sailing during her final semester to enjoy college. - We follow the progress of over 250 high school Sailing teams plus the 15 - 17 year old kids, who do well at the hundreds of junior regattas throughout the country, mostly during the summer. I race Sunfish on the national circuit and post recruitment messages on their board, plus our 138 member Afterguard membership constantly provides leads, and I follow up with every one of them. This year, our Potential Recruits e-mail list has about 30 prospects. Experienced female crews are more plentiful than experienced female skippers, which is why the number of schools in our conference with women's teams is half that of the number with coed teams.     - Frank McLaughlin, Charlie Elwood & Mike Roberts, Coordinator of Club Sports (my boss), have all been very supportive, as has Fr. McShane, who has gone out of his way to greet key recruits. No program ever has enough money but the University has provided Sailing with sufficient financial resources, which when supplemented by the team's fundraising efforts and that of the Afterguard, the alumni support group, has been certainly adequate for our up-and-coming program.
