Subject: The sport is picking up tremendously, and not just in the typical hotspot areas (Long Island, Maryland and Philadelphia) either. There is a good amount of competition around the country now, and more and more grade schools are offering lax as a Spring Sport. A friend of mine who owns an indoor soccer arena also has started with year round lax leagues for youth. He said it is by far the most populated league he has, and he turns away kids due to lack of field time. We'd be foolish given our location, easy access to recruits, and lack of field space the sport takes up not to change our club program into a Div. 1 team.

  • This may not be a bad men's sport to add. Since our male population seems to be dwindling it might be good for Fordham to investigate this. Also, it seems like mostly schools with better academic reputations offer this as a sport with scholarships. This may be a way for us to compete with these schools for academically qualified men. I know there may be Title 9 implications but I am sure there must be someway to accomodate this. (NT) -- JCMB, Sun April 03, 2005 18:38:01
  • Apart from scholarships, it shouldn't be a tremendous marginal cost to add a women's lacrosse team if a men's team is added. I like the idea because I have a couple of cousins out in Massapequa who play and can hold their own against most boys their age (just under 10). By the time the program fully matures and becomes regionally competitive they'll be ready for the coach to take paying for college off their parents' hands!
