Subject: Two years ago we were a laughingstock of NYC and college hoops under the leadership of Bob Hill, finishing with a dismal school-worst 2-26 record and talk of getting booted from the A10. Since then DW has taken us to 13 wins (of which some came against respectable opponents we haven't beaten in years or decades) and some narrow losses against some other respectable opponents. Yet instead of celebrating that rapid progress you now fret because our program in only its second year of rebuilding doesn't compare to this year's best teams? Of course mistakes were made at times and DW has more work to do but I'm not even close to the point where I'm going to be nervous about this. Please relax!
In reply to: '02 Grad 's message, "In watching the last couple weeks of postseason basketball, it has become more obvious to me that while players win basketball games, they need the help of a great coach to do so. Now I love the excitement and the recruiting that DW has brought to Fordham, but I can't seem to get over the fact that our coaching staff is questionable at best when it comes to Xs and Os. Our offensive and defensive schemes, even when we were at our best, seem shaky. Just by watching a team like WVU yesterday dominate a good portion of their game w/Louisville made me question whether or not we could ever get to that point. Thats a team that is probably at our talent level, but they made it where they did because of John Beilein (and some pretty sick 3 point shooting). Now maybe once the guys get more used to playing together after a couple seasons we'll see them run some crisp offense, and play some great defense, but I still can't help but doubt that will happen. Please prove me wrong. Thoughts?" on Sun March 27, 2005 11:33:35

  • Please don't compare talent levels of WVU and us at present. while they look slow and deliberate WVU has excellent basketball players. Three point shooting is a talent, not luck. give whit some time to recruit shooters and other players. Belein is a great coach but he also has great players. • Talent wise, I will compare them to us. I'm familiar with their program and they can shoot, but the reason they got to where they are is do to cerebrial players, a brilliant coach and a system that works. (NT) -- '02 Grad, Sun March 27, 2005 22:19:47
