My high school Spanish teacher was from Spain and felt the same way - utter contempt for any non-Castillian accent. It was a rough class for the gringos withour white-boy accents, but the latino kids of Puerto Rican and Dominican accent caught the worst of her wrath. She was one mean midget and had the sharpest tongue I've ever heard. In fact, she was so old and cranky that she told one guy (not me thankfully) who pissed her off that his father (who was once her student) never amounted to anything and neither will he.
