Subject: He can settle down anywhere. What he can't get anywhere but here though is the chance to be the big fish in the big pond that is the NYC and national hoops scene. We've got much of what he needs (except the competent AD and the sports palace) but he's already shown that he can work around those while we work on the long-term solution. DW could be Fordham's Carnesecca, Martelli, Chaney (sans the irritability), Digger (of the loyal variety), or even the next Coach K (I'm on a roll here, go with it). He has already done the heavy-lifting over the past two years. The rewards are just around the corner, the opportunity is plain to see. All he has to do is say yes. Sometimes life really is that simple.

  • Who's got a better chance to become the hoops king of New York -- DW or Norm (yawn) Roberts? Even though DW's not originally from the area, he strikes me as having the attitude, edge, and fire that New Yorkers will respond to, far more than Roberts. Gonzo might have had a shot, but he's blown it by making clear his intention to bolt from NYC at the first chance. [Is the Louisiana-Monroe job still open?]. Whitt's DC roots are right down the road, a quick car or train ride away. [Face it, NYC and DC are now two ends of the same town, a big East Coast Metroplex. I know, I split my time between the two "neighborhoods"]. We need to knock off some big team in the Garden, reawaken the "Monster of Madison Square", and DW will realize that he's home and he's the Man. Let's do that contract extension and go for it!
