Subject: I know John Sexton since the 1960s, and he is a remarkable guy, one of the smartest Fordham has ever turned out. While attending Fordham, he coached national champion speech and debate teams at St. Brendan's HS in Brooklyn. I'm sure he'll give a heartfelt speech at his alma mater, and bring more sincerity to it than any celebrity giving his or her graduation "stump" speech.

  • I think you made a very good point, and it is extremely encuoraging to see one of our alums doing so well, and running one of our rival schools(In terms of student recruitment), but I still would not want him as my speaker at Graduation. He may be extremely successful, but he does not have the name appeal. There is a good bit of bragging rights when you talk to you friends from other schools about who your schools speaker is. I feel as if I mentioned the name John Sexton no one would know who he is. I think this plays a large part of why Seniors could be discouraged. (NT) -- Ram04, Sat April 23, 2005 12:13:46
