Thanks for the articles. I cannot say I agree with the rulings, but rules are rules and therefore must be adhered to. I think NJ may want to look into changing the rule. Perhaps set it up so that once you have entered high school you are only allowed to play 4 years of high school basketball. If a kid is good enough to play high school basketball as a 7th or 8th grader then I see no harm if they do. -- Fordham Rams Basketball Message Board

The majority of NJ public schools will vote against changing the rule. The majority of the teams that benefit from these kids who are affected by this rule who are from NY State attend Catholic High Schools just over the NJ/NY boarder. Public schools have always seen NY kids attending these schools as an unfair athletic advantage. They even go so far as accusing them of recruiting. I played football with one of the greatest running backs to play NJ high school ball, Cooper Rego. Rego was from NY State as was half our program. Our program which has been NJ winningest in the past 10 years, has always been comprised of a majority of Ny kids. Public schools find this as a tremdous disadvantage. These kids just want to attend better schools with better athletic programs. Biggs and J.R. Iman would never get the publicity they have gotten if they played for teams that went 5-20 in Rockland County. (NT) -- Smoochy, Tue March 22, 2005 17:09:15
