Subject: OK, Time to Extend/Improve DW's Contract

Ok, let's get going. DW has proven what he can do at Fordham, and it's all good. His current contract must be extended with a substantial raise, bonuses for NCAA appearances, high graduation rates, etc. NOW!!! A college coach needs a minimum of four years(preferably 5+) locked in to effectively recruit. Let's do the right thing and get this done. The blue chippers are watching us now and this is the right time if we're going to grab some.

If we had a proactive athletic administration at FU we could expect that such discussions have already begun. Sadly, it is the history of our alma mater that a matter like this will be ignored until it is too late and DW has been courted by some other program. Luckily, NC State seems to be putting it all together and saving the job of their coach. I'd sure like to see FU at the very least give DW a two-year extension with a decent raise. - Two more years is not appropriate. It sends the wrong message to the fans, the media, DW and our recruits. Coaching contracts are more statements to the various basketball constituencies nowadays as opposed to binding agreements, but they are critical to sending the message that Fordham is serious about building and maintaining a successful basketball program in the future.         Smart AD's structure a coach's contract with automatic rollovers every 2-3 years and have clauses built in for a salary/bonus review periodically so no one can use contract issues against the coach in the recruiting wars.
