Holy Cross' loss means they will probably not get an NCAA Tounament bid, even with a 24-6 record and a history of playing good games in the tounament. There have been cases in the other direction-a major conference team loses in the first round of its conference tounament and still gets a #1 seed. Michigan State a few years ago was the case. The NCAA Tournament should put a premium on conference championships. No at large team should be seeded higher than any conference champion, even if the conference champion is say Manhattan and the at large is Duke. However the real reason to seed teams is not to reward effort, but to make money with marquis matchups. Just listen to Dick Vitale.

That's ridiculous. So Oakland, at 12-18, gets a higher seed than UConn, Wake, GTech, etc? You're right, HC will probably get shafted (like Fordham did in '91), but your logic undercuts your argument that HC should get a bid. If the committee gives priority to Conference tournament winners, wouldn't that be an argument that HC should be left out in the cold? (NT) -- Ram'83, Sat March 12, 2005 09:46:58
- HC won't get shafter this year, because they don't deserve the bid. When you play in a conference like the PL you either win the Championship or you watch the Tourny on TV. HC doesn't have any quality OCC wins unlike FU in '91 when we beat SHU, Xavier and Vandy, all of whom, I believe, went to the Dance. Unless they're playing us, I chear for HC, but the fact is they -- typically -- hang tough for 45 minutes then lose big, so their tournament history shouldn't play a part in selection anyway.
