>And what makes Passions AS successful as Santa Barbara?

I NEVER said that, I said Passions was NBC's most successful new soap SINCE Santa Barbara. Since SB's premiere NBC has launched, Generations, Sunset Beach
and Passions. Passions, unlike GEN and SUBE has showed
ratings GROWTH, sure its not any huge gains, but they have shown an increase from its initial premiere ratings. SUBEs highest rating ever occured during its premiere week, Passions has broken its premiere week rating many, many times. So Passions, like Santa Barbara broke the barrier of increasing viewers from their initial premiere ratings, while SUBE clearly was in decline from day one, never showing any GROWTH.

> The ratings for Passions have been in the cellar since it >first began and has only kicked Port Charles and Sunset >Beach's behinds in the ratings and that was ONLY because >it had Days as a lead-in.

PASSIONS ratings aren't anything to be proud of, although from the spin, it seems like PSSNS is doing much better
than SUBE was in the young demos, and thats what NBC wants and cares about.

>Not ONLY that, but I also read that after about 6 months-a >year on the air, Santa Barbara made a drastic cast and >storyline overhaul, which probably saved the show. >Passions hasn't done that and it continues to suck.

The Dobson's recreated Santa Barbara, which led to the Golden Era of Daytime Television, Santa Barbara from 1985-1987 (it ended when the Dobsons were illegally locked out of SBs studios). SB would have been canceled in 1985 if the Dobson's didnt make a drastic overhall. This reminds me of the hype concerning SUBEs Earthquake story, SUBE fans were saying that would be the big story to get the ratings up, and they pointed out SBs Earthquake in 1984, but the BIG DIFFERENCE was SB used the earthquake as a plot devise to recreate the show, SUBE just used it as a gimmick. SUBE was a disaster, much like Santa Barbara was when it premiered, although SB had the ultracreative Dobsons to swallow their pride, cut their lossess, and revamp. Too bad no one at SUBE/NBC had the balls to admit defeat and revamp!

>What are the NBC suits smoking?

It might just be a plot to scare Corday. NBC floats stories of a DAYS replacement, so Corday will be more likely to settle for less money. NBC doesn't want to get rid of DAYS, although they aren't idiots either, they wont pay Corday more than what DAYS is worth. Remember DAYS was much higher rated, last contract, and NBC is probably in no position to keep the current terms of that contract.

>There are LOTS of writers who would kill for their own >soap.

Including me! :)

>Why are they sticking with a hack like Reilly,

But they don't think he is a hack.

>ABC would be wise to lure Ken Corday and Company to their >network once again.

ABC is in serious trouble. Can they afford Corday's asking price? Times have changed.... I think Corday blew his chance to moving to ABC, if only he wasn't so against the SoapNet aspects of the contract! Thats what it came down to, PC was canceled and OLTL reduced to 30 mins that was agreed upon, just couldnt agree on SoapNet issues.

>Or perhaps ABC will cancel BOTH Port Charles and One Life >to Live an give the half hour to the affiliates?

DAYS 1pm AMC 2pm GH 3pm? IF DAYS moves to ABC that is
the likely line-up. I don't think ABC can afford to
keep OLTL and still obtain the rights to air DAYS.

>I hope it's true that NBC wants to cancel Days of our >Lives. It will certainly be their loss.

I'm certain they don't want to cancel. Although like I said, they won't go broke keeping it.
