Reilly is a HACK. And by no means is Jim Reilly a Gen-X Bill Bell.
And what makes Passions AS successful as Santa Barbara? The ratings for Passions have been in the cellar since it first began and has only kicked Port Charles and Sunset Beach's behinds in the ratings and that was ONLY because it had Days as a lead-in.
Not ONLY that, but I also read that after about 6 months-a year on the air, Santa Barbara made a drastic cast and storyline overhaul, which probably saved the show. Passions hasn't done that and it continues to suck.
Passions can't POSSIBLY stand on it's own two feet, especially with ANOTHER Reilly Soap, perhaps as it's lead-in. What are the NBC suits smoking?
IF Days is not as profitable as it once was and NBC wants to let it go(And knowing how ABC loves leftovers, they'll probably pounce on the chance of getting Days and shorning One Life to Live to a half hour), why are they only considering Reilly for material for a new daytime soap? There are LOTS of other creative writers/ideas to choose from......
There's Christian McLaughin(Co-Creator Of Spyder Games), who would probably bring n the demos NBC is looking for, as well as bring some controversy to the network. And well all know that controversy=ratings jump.
Hogan Sheffer, who has brought As the World Turns from the lowest of the low. And judging by his Days ripoff with Lucy, Allison and Aaron, he could do justice for the demos that Days is looking for. And would probably do a MUCH better job than Reilly.
Karen Harris, who put a lot of humor into Port Charles, not to mention creativity in the year of 2000.
And then there's that kickass Law and Order: Daytime Idea that Couch Critic came up with that could be The Edge of Night for the 21st Century. Not to mention that ANYTHING with the Law and Order name can be easily profitable.
There are LOTS of writers who would kill for their own soap. Why are they sticking with a hack like Reilly, who has nothing else better to do than write for vapid "heroines" like Theresa(UGH!) and Sheridan(ICK!)?
ABC would be wise to lure Ken Corday and Company to their network once again. ABC is a lot more "reality based" and romance oriented and will probably pressure Days into returning to it's core.(And don't tell me they plan to shorten The View to a half hour to accomodate Days and the other shows on the lineup. That show's starting to become more and more popular and Barbara Walters simply won't have her gem cut back to a half-hour)
Think about it, this could be interesting. Would ABC put All My Children at 2CST and push Days to the Noon time slot, so viewers who don't pick up a Soap Opera Digest can flip throuhg during noontime and "stumble" upon Days. Different channel, same time, hmmm?
Or perhaps ABC will cancel BOTH Port Charles and One Life to Live an give the half hour to the affiliates?
I hope it's true that NBC wants to cancel Days of our Lives. It will certainly be their loss.
