Respectfully, I would like to point out that, from what I understand to be the truth, the EV Committee have no say whatsoever in team selection or recruitment. They just give up countless hours of their time attending meetings, manning gates, missing the entire first halves of every home match, giving valuable support for away matches - and pay considerable amounts of money to do so into the bargain!
This has been an unfortunate misunderstanding between two genuine rugby clubs with no axe to grind between them. In the old days of Rugby honour and respect, with elected committees enjoying equal status, the issue would have been resolved with a simple phone call. Unfortunately, the present - and, hopefully, temporarily and unequal - malevolent culture of compensation and revenge in society in general seems to have spilled into our sport and demands punitive claims from anyone who pedantically perceives a slight deviance from the constantly-changing rule book.
No-one in Ebbw Vale can question the commitment of the team during the past few months: their record speaks for itself. This is due to their application of skills and fitness and to the sound policy of their immediate management team. Perhaps, the management team's adherence to the true values of what rugby has always been about in the past has resulted in a few catastrophic errors of judgement. That is not their fault: that lies elsewhere, with the people obsessed with the minutiae of the rule book - rather than the ethos of rugby and exactly why it is that men train hard, live a healthy life, and sacrifice the company of family and friends to throw a ball about during the hard winter months and try to convey it over the opponents' line to win the day for their community.
I for one say:
"Carry on your management and team-spirit policies. They are working and deserve our applause. Just be a little more aware that some individuals are not as committed to the true values and heritage of Welsh rugby as you have been this season."
