The Ebbw Vale Supporters Arena

  • Simply Wales!! -- Alan, 03:04:26 02/27/05 Sun (84-51-132-25.michae208.adsl.metronet.co.uk/84.51.132.25)
Don't get me wrong lads, this board is obviously used to discuss EVRFC issues and games etc, and I think the majority of you know I post about this fairly regularly!? But let's take a second away from it and rejoice, even if the grand slam doesnt happen! We ramble about the goings on in regional rugby and the politics of the game, but let's take our hats off to a tremendous bunch of professionals that showed us today what sport is all about! Commitment, pride, and general fun and enthusiasm!? We all love this game so much... maybe too much at times. So let's just be glad for what we have in Wales at the moment, as tonight I am one very proud Welshman!! Cymru am beth!

The previous posting accurately reflect Wednesday night.Couple of points, the scrum looked a bit better when Lyn williams came on.We need to stop playing back row forwards in the second row, its not fair and further destabilises the scrum.Play Craig Cleaver on the flank, although I realise that picking up out of a retreating scrum is difficult. Its time to give Scott Headington another go at 9.Sorting out the set piece even if we were able to deliver reasonable ball on 40% of our line outs and put ins is enough for our backs to win the game.Personally I like the the backs line up that finished against Bedwas. What has happened to Scudamore?

  • Concerns -- Mick Mouse, 08:21:21 02/25/05 Fri (hide-235.nhs.uk/195.10.45.235)
I have been worried for about a month now, I can definately see us heading for relegation again. I have to admit I am getting a bit sick of it. Having had a season ticket for the last 10 years it has to be said I am reaching the stage where I am starting to ask 'is it worth the effort'. This constant struggling has gone on since we played London Irish in that 1/4 final in 2000. The club has consistantly struggled since. Before Xmas there were signs that had changed, however I now feel we are back in that old habit.
The team seems to have more talent than last year, however thee is still no fight and teams like Pontypool, Bedwas and Caerphilly all seem to have more 'Want to win' attitude than Ebbw Vale.
Its time to wake up Ebbw Vale, stop blaming referees, the WRU, the Dragons ang get 3 or 4 wins wanted to secure the top flight position.

  • Usual problems ... -- :-(, 09:36:19 02/24/05 Thu (hide-235.nhs.uk/195.10.45.235)

Same old set piece problems ... no scrum and no line-out. We have been particularly bad in these areas all year. We have actually done well to win the number of games we have with no ball.

Dread to think what N*****t are going to do to us ...

Got to win at least one more ... !!

  • Very poor again especially up front -- -, 23:12:57 02/23/05 Wed (lysine.whitcombe.org.uk/84.92.27.107)
To be only 3 points adrift by half time if anything showed how poor bedwas were, they could and perhaps should have scored 2 or 3 more tries.

Yet again our pack was beaten in every aspect of the game. Our scrum was hammered and more often than not turned over. What little ball we did get from it was slow and going backwards. Lineout yet again was dreadful.
There was no platform to play off, very little posession. What ball we did get was slow.

The backs werent that sharp either - we look dangerous with a turnover but in normal play seem to like any form of creativitity. Nobody running lines or dummys, no patterns at all. Tackling first half was poor that led to their first try for example.

Some other costly bad decisions late on, another bad scrum, instead of a pick up at the back it was just watched and went 90 again. Manu would have helped but was injured in the warm up.
Last 2 mins of play on a very rare attack 6-7m from their line and we decide to kick it through and see. We HAVE to keep the ball in positions like that not try kicks.

A minor whinge at the referee - the last 5 mins of play we got a series of penalties in or around their 22. They knew 3 points wasnt enough so deliberately killed the ball repeatedly. They got penalised repeatedly but didnt get carded.

Im still fairly convinced we're safe but it is getting close - on performances of the last few games and with a pack that totally destroyed by a very average side i cant see us winning any of our remaining games. There just seems to be no desire at all and a distinct lack of confidence.

In a moment of blind optimism I've just booked a ferry ticket and am off to Paris this weekend. Is there a trip going from the club, and if so where is it staying - would be nice to see some friendly faces.

So another narrow defeat and I am starting to get worried that we are going to be dragged back into the relegation dogfight as we are now down to 11th. I saw Caerphilly murder Llanelli in the 2nd half last night and looking at their remaining fixtures they are more than capable of winning 5 of their last 8 to catch us. Also Llandovery, Pooler, Bedwas and Cardiff all look capable of winning enough games to overhaul our 30 points and given our poor try scoring record we could get sucked in to that 3rd from bottom position. We need at least 1 more win and I would prefer 2 but at the moment I can't see where they are going to come from. I know we have Llanharan and Newbridge to come who I think are already down but relegated sides tend to win games when the pressure is off them.
