The Ebbw Vale Supporters Arena

  • End of the Newport Dragons -- GarnBoy, 18:48:16 02/21/05 Mon (81-86-94-115.dsl.pipex.com/81.86.94.115)
    Found this on a rugby board. Any views?

    Yes thats right, some good might come from the fact that Tony Brown has left the Dragons. He was a Newport man through and through, he didnt want Ebbw Vale or Newbridge, he wanted Newport. And IMO he got what he wanted. All games played at NEWPORT, he put NEWPORT in the name, most supporters came from NEWPORT, but now he has gone. I can see this as being the start of something big for the valleys. The Dragons need support off the WRU, and if they dont get it i can see them going down. The Dragons can no longer afford to challenge the WRU, they dont have the power, or the money. If the WRU plays their cards right, they could make the Dragons become more regional. If the Dragons want the funding as as a REGIONAL side they will have to make more effort to include the rest of Gwent. By this i mean taking Newport out of the name, playing games at PPP, Newbridge and Eugene. As somebody said before, there is plenty of space on the old Steelworks grounds to build a bigger ground, surely it wouldnt cost that much and it would benefit Welsh rugby in the long run. Its not too late to turn it around, we are still only 2 seasons in to the regional setup. I can see this being the end of the Newport Dragons and the start of the GWENT Dragons.

    Anybody know the team for wednesdays game.

    I cant get there am working till 7.30, but i do have my contacts who are going, up i will be posting regular updates on here. {the better we're doing the more regular they'll be}

    As for the stuff about the team taking the ruff with the smooth in terms of criticism, we have suffered at the hands of an injury crisis, which started before christmas. We havnt had a fully fit squad since our winning streak cam to an end.

    Critisism is fair enough, but standing on the bank, and reading this forum, u hear a lot of abuse about their attitude. This is rubbish, and how is this meant to help the players. If their down we need to pick them up with our chants of EBBW EBBW EBBW, not kick them in the teeth. Now c'mon. lets get behind the boys who have outdone everybodys expectations for this season.

    Just a couple of games left at home now, when we travel away we never ear the team slaged off like some home supporters do. Please can we keep the critisum low key as this team and the coaches as done better than anyone had expected. A BIG WELL DONE TO EVERYONE.

    Where is it going wrong? Let me tell you!
    There seems to be a total lack of belief and motivation within the squad a thing that is necessary in order to win the type of game we seen last night. We need to get this area right. Speaking to many of the players and they say that a big loss to their motivation process is the ‘Steelettes’. Some of you may laugh but this is a serious issue that effects the future of Ebbw Vale RFC. The ‘Steelettes’ have been absent and so has our belief, we need them back immediately if we want to finish on the top half of the table this season.

    I for one as a supporter feel a sense of pride and passion when the ‘Steelettes’ take the field, so god knows how our players feel. There’s not even music anymore, we got to sort this serious issue out!

  • Newport Funding -- Piglet, 11:57:44 02/20/05 Sun (host81-132-101-117.range81-132.btcentralplus.com/81.132.101.117)
    I see from the media that Tony Brown has announced yet another withdrawal from funding Dragons. Now we know that the Dragons and Newport RFC are under common ownership. If Brown really means it this time then it will clearly mean that their Board will be short of money. Does this mean that they will cut the financial support to the Premier Division team in favour of the Region? Does it mean that Dragons will have to adopt a truly regional approach and seek to place their players with other Gwent teams, on suitable financial terms, rather than simply place them with Newport? Will any of the Gwent teams (our own included) be prepared to work with Dragons at all bearing in mind the well documented way they have behaved previously?
    My final point is a challenge to the Newport management. You have found it easy with a professional squad in a league of semi professional clubs. Are you willing to accept the challenge of trying to run a premier team and having to balance the books as (the bulk of) the rest of have to.
    Neath next then?

    Never seen the board do this before. All the archives seem to be present, but the first page seems to have gone walkies.
