  • Fixture change reminder -- Graham, 01:56:20 02/18/05 Fri (ebbwvale.plus.com/80.229.160.12)
    Just a reminder.

As announced by Alan at half time during the Bridgend game and updated on the home page by Rob, the game away at Bedwas next week has been switched from Tuesday to Wednesday night.

Let's hope we can put in an 80-minute performance for that game, as Bedwas are going to be up for it having lost away at Caerphilly this week. Bedwas are in a fairly safe looking position, but a win would almost assure them of staying up. On current form, we look like Bedwas’ best chance of a win and they will be rubbing their hands after hearing about the Bridgend game.

Come on then Ebbw, put the last one behind you and look to the next game. Let’s get a bit more daylight between ourselves and Bedwas (only 6 points at the moment).

  • Where Do You Start With That Game??? -- Graham, 00:00:22 02/17/05 Thu (ebbwvale.plus.com/80.229.160.12)

That is probably where we went wrong. We didn't seem to know the game had started until the half time whistle went. By then all the damage (much of it self inflicted) had been done.
During the first half, almost everyone wearing an Ebbw jersey seemed to be in competition for the "greatest display of inertia" award.

    Tackling – awful.
Lineout - non existent again (until the last one).
Scrum - under pressure, but it was a good Bridgend pack.
Passing - some went to our own player’s hands.

One Bridgend try came as a direct result of our lost lineout on their 22, but I have been told that it was due to holding the jumper down (I didn’t notice it, so can’t comment). Bridgend broke and scored a very good 80-metre try.
The try where their centre took a quick tap and ran at 4 of our defenders on the line was simply embarrassing.
Manu and Scott didn't seem to be communicating at all and in one instance they both stood and looked at a loose ball out of the scrum together. Granted, the ball may have been heeled harder and quicker than anyone expected but for them to leave it to each other was awful to watch. Communicate lads it helps you know.
The second half saw us go for it from the off. The early try should have been the platform we wanted and up to a point it was. We kept them pinned in their half for nearly the first 20 minutes. Unfortunately the pressure wasn't turned into points.

Tackling - marginally better with a bit more effort going in.
Lineout - huge improvement and only lost a couple
Scrum - much better. Bridge got punchy when they were put under pressure.
Passing - still wayward. Very few passes went to hand.

Needless to say, if we'd played both halves as we played the second half, it would have been a different outcome. But once again, we gave away soft tries and gifted a team a good lead. But in fairness, in every facet they looked a lot sharper than us. Bridgend looked like a team on a winning streak. They were well organised and had confidence running high. A well deserved win. But this was a halfhearted Ebbw performance.
Apart from the second half fight back the other plus points for me were Jason's kicking game (not many loose kicks), Dean's continuing improvement, the young hooker we had on loan again (puts a lot of effort in considering he isn’t an Ebbw player), Tristan's effort when he came on (we are yet to see the best out of this player, he is well worth keeping), the ever hard working Kuli. But at the end of the day, we weren’t good enough.

I don't know what Byron and Chay said to the team at half time, but I wish they'd said it at the start of the game instead.
Well that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  • Bridgend next Wednesday -- Graham, 01:04:52 02/12/05 Sat (ebbwvale.plus.com/80.229.160.12)

Bridgend are going to really fancy their chances of doing us over next week. Their good run of league form goes on. Tonight they won away at Llandovery and outscored them four tries to nil.

As we know only to well, from experience, winning and losing streaks have to start (and end) somewhere. Let's hope we can serve up a surprise for the Ravens.

Just wanna say well done to all the players for their efforts last night.

We've been having a tough time of it recently sice being docked three points nothing seems to have go our way.

Lets hope this win can pick us up, and that our injury problems subside, and we get back to winning ways week in week out.

Were almost definately safe now, so lets enjoy it. When was the last time we were almost definately safe at this stage in the season.

Anybody got any news on how our appeal went. Decision was yesterday wasnt it??
