The Ebbw Vale Supporters Arena

  • Game in Doubt? -- Graham, 23:20:41 02/08/05 Tue (ebbwvale.plus.com/80.229.160.12)

Just read on the Llanharan site that Ebbw Vale are trying to pull out of tomorrow's game because we can't raise a full squad/team to take down there.

Llanharan are refusing to call it off because, (and I quote) "no one has had worse injury problems than us, yet somehow we managed to fulfil our obligations". It is of course complete nonsense.

If they have been playing with all those "alleged" injuries, perhaps that is why their playing record is so poor. Dennis John is canny enough to know that they need to play us right now while we are depleted and out of form, as it would be their only chance of getting a result.

Of course if we pull out without their full cooperation, we will be deducted points, as has already happened to Newbridge and Bridgend. This is what they obviously want being in the deep cak that they are in.

I only hope that later in the season if/when they want us to do them a favour, we return the compliment by telling them to get stuffed.

Now, knowing the extent of our problems with injuries I am not looking forward to the game as I feel that we have little or no chance. With a fully fit squad to pick from I have every confidence that we would take them, but this latest injury crisis has put a different perspective on it. Never mind, even if we have to wait until April to beat them, I’m sure it will be all the sweeter.

  • Training -- Graham, 22:35:11 02/07/05 Mon (ebbwvale.plus.com/80.229.160.12)

Looking a bit sick on the injury front again this week.

    Backs.
Scott Horner still not training after his pre-match injury last week. Jason Williams didn't train on Cae Canol. His hand injury (which kept him out of the Pooler game) needed quite a few stitches, so there's no guarantee that he'll be available for Wednesday.
Good news is that Andrew Bevan seems ok.

    Forwards.
With Ben's hearing tomorrow, he will obviously be starting his ban with immediate effect. He trained but left earlier than the playing squad, so (unless found not guilty) won't be involved. More front row problems as Chris Thomas is injured as well. Seeing as Chris Downs has parted company with the club, we are in a bit of a hole. Didn't see Richard there and it looked as if Bulldog and Matthew Griffin will be the locks this week.
Good news is that Lyn was involved a bit more tonight and spent some time with the pack using the scrum machine. Wouldn't be surprised if he were on the bench this week. He played yet another game for our neighbours (Brynmawr) last week and seems eager to get back on the field for us. Another prop that seems eager is Dean; he seems to have the attitude right in that there is a lot to make up for after we failed to turn up at Pooler.

Nice to see Chunky down there tonight. He was just out for a gentle loosen up and did a little jogging around the field. He even threw into a couple of lineouts (it was good to see). He is still not a well man at all and has resigned himself to the fact that he won't be playing until next season, but it shows his dedication to the cause that he made this effort to be with the lads training. Many would have put their feet up and said "I've got until next season, so why bother", but the man's attitude is fantastic. We look forward to seeing you playing again Chunky.

Steel and determination will be required in abundance at Llanharan if we are to be in with any chance there.

We await the powers that be for official confirmation, but it looked like; Macca, Kris, Dan, Handsome, Bev, Byron/Jason, Scott, Lee, Greg, Abu, Bulldog, Griff, Farmer, Scu and Manu.

Can we win? It's going to take a big improvement and a lot of bottle, but being the eternal optimist, I think we can.

I know it's nothing to do with Ebbw Vale, but have a look at this story (it's even made the news on CNN).

  • Ben's Ban? -- Graham, 18:04:27 02/04/05 Fri (ebbwvale.plus.com/80.229.160.12)

Does anyone have any information regarding Ben's disciplinary hearing? I realise he probably won't be playing for Ebbw Vale again (since his involvement with Sale), but I'd like to keep track to find out what sort of ban he will get for this "referee abuse" charge, and then compare it to that dished out to a certain regional star who stamped on someone’s head.

  • Team?????? -- CJ, 22:34:54 02/02/05 Wed (host81-158-4-248.range81-158.btcentralplus.com/81.158.4.248)
First of all, congratulations to Pooler. You were by far the better side, and good luck with the rest of the season.

    But....

Did we go down there not expecting a win at all. There were a few changes made to our starting line, and no disrespect to any of the other players, but four of our best forwards were on the bench.

And why was Scotty Horner on the bench with headington on the wing???? Fair play headington played ok, and didnt let us down despite playing out of position. But surely Horner is first choice.

At times, we didnt even look like we wanted to be out there playing for the badge.

Thought Byron had one of the poorest games I've seen him play in. Made very bad decisions and kept running up blind alleys getting us into trouble. And when he did pass, most of them were hospital passes.

And heres the worst bit. The substitutions. Why oh Why did they not come on at half time. At 14 - 8, we were still in the game. But by the time the subs came on it was 24 - 8 and the game was lost. They may aswell have stayed off and not risked injury.

I got a suspicion that we did not expect a win and thought what the hell we'll target the llanharan game, which is fair enough, but substitions needed to be made at half time when we could have still won it.

I felt if we had taken Kristian Owen, Scudy and Cleaver out of there, we would have had nothing at all. Cleaver and Scudy worked their socks off, and Kristian was our only attacking threat, and was often isolated with slow support coming from us.

We drastically need to turn this around and start to preform like we were doing just before christmas. We are not yet safe.

Lets pick it up Ebb. We really need a win against llanharan to pick both players and supporters up, and turn our luck upside down
