"the flaw in the resurrection was not the use of magic to accomplish it, but the false pride and abuse of power "

The fact that I can't come up with an alternative way that they could have resurrected her (although you might argue that the beastie boys in No Assembly Required were able to do it without magic) makes me think that magic has to be included as part of the hubris. Or rather, the hubris lies in doing magic thinking there are no consequences. Again like boozing. Had Willow not performed the magic, hubris alone would have been insufficient to produce those consequences.

As for previous examples, I think the proper question is not "Are there examples of magic having consequences?" (since that can always to some degree be answered simply by a cataloguing of subsequent events) but rather "Are there any examples prior to Season 6 of magic being used and having repercussions unanticipated by the magicker?" I'm sure counterexamples exist, but I'm not sure they would be of much significance. Maybe though.

I agree completely that hubris, carelessness, thoughtlessness, anger, stupidity are all factors that can cause unpredictable results when practicing magic.
